What is most commonly used?

From personal experience, I believe that a good manager is one who performs his activities with patience, hard work and integrity. But it is always good to consider tools that support the development of the same.

Such as: Realistic goals and resources to achieve them, periodic meetings, training.

Anywayyyy… if your question is, what should a manager prioritize providing to his team, imo it’s training.  Give someone intelligent and resourceful good training and if they’re hungry enough they’ll figure the rest out.

That said, the majority of people on earth, regardless of profession, do want things spoon fed to them. So prebuilt processes and infrastructure probably is the answer to your awful post… i.e. your goals and resources option.

The perspective of a good manager I think depends where you are in your corporate journey. When starting out as a new kid, it was good to have frequent and close contact with my manager and support and coaching from them. Id want them to be approachable and someone quite happy to help me every day, someone I could learn from (i.e. a leader rather than a "manager" as such).
