What is normal % increase for annual targets year over year?

This is my first time posting here, so apologies if I miss some protocol. I received my 2023 target for my (small, 5 person) sales team and the jump seems unjustified given our process / support / lead flow etc hasn't had an equally significant jump. I know targets always increase, but am curious, what is the normal for year-over-year % increase to targets? If it is helpful to share, I work for a marketing agency.

Difficult to answer this one. I have experienced multiple changes in 2022 itself.

Annual targets should depend solely on the lead influx, market saturation, market condition at the moment and then the team size etc.

You would know best as to whether or not the % is unrealistic - since you know the product and the market best.

I do not foresee my annual targets going up this year - considering everything. But if it were to go up, should be 3-5%. And I'd then expect a 5x of the targets to be my appraisal. Alrighttttt thank yewww!

What % increase did you get?

And yes, unfortunately, backing into your number based on a target is very common. They have to make that number somehow.

5 to 10% annual target increase that's what I would say Normal!

damn i really dont know if there is a "normal" increase.

it really should be based off the market. How much demand is there for your product, how many AE's are there and what can be accomplished in a year based off of sale cycle length.

so i find it hard to find an average.

when ever there is an increase, I would always ASK how and why they chose the number and see if there is any response.

They basically said they want to achieve X% growth in 2023 so my team's numbers back into that :/

ohhh shit. yeah thats probably the worst way to do it in my mind.

but its SUPER common and been done for years.

Pretty much just working backwards from the number.
I would be super curious to know if they have ANY idea how that will happen.

increasing quota's does not make your product any more valuable or in demand haha.

sorry to hear this.

My team target ended up increasing by 7% after some serious negotiating with finance. They first pitched more like 15%. YIKES!

My quota went up 40% this year - 7% is not too bad my friend.

Depends where you are and what you are selling.

FEELINGS- Your commission is annual (ARR) but the customer paid monthly (MRR) and if there is a churn in the next few months, the company will deduct by increasing your quota and taking the equivalent amount $$ from your quota in the next month.

Should your Ramp Quota relief count towards or against your annual target?
