The most recent one I got was "pick an app on your phone and convince me to download it" which seems like the modern day "sell me this pen".

In our SDR interviews, we send over a product walkthrough and script, and do a short role play, and throw in an objection.

It’s quite sharp and makes a good weapon.  As a note taking device it sucks.  Pens, pencils and note books are just better. Speech to text is better.  Typing is better.

I hate Apple; they made me buy one.  That’s some funky marketing foo they’ve got.  Now I know to go to the Apple store and say, “sell me this Apple Pencil!” Just to watch them squirm.

I still think "sell me this pen" is relevant. If people can't answer something that simple then how will they answer something even more sophisticated?

Fair enough. But that is somehow associated with an older school of thought. Not sure why tbh.

By far!  Sad day when a candidate turns the question back on me LOL.  "Hey, I don't know either-you're hired."

My favourite interview question is “What’s the purpose of the International Space Station and why is it worth $250B ? “

The answer will uncover every human & biz fibre of the interviewee.

I doubt that anyone looked at hiring this way. At least in sales.

I never really understood why anyone ever thought this was a good question, even when I had my own sales team and had to interview candidates.

I have always sold using the consultative approach and I wanted people who did the same on my team. I don't need someone to fact dump a bunch of bullshit about how great a pen is on me, who cares? Last type of person I'd want to hire for a serious sales position. The question doesn't have any context of need.
