What is your favorite credit card?

So I am contemplating getting a new credit card. Have been reading a lot about various rewards programs for cash back, miles, exclusive booking, etc. Honestly it all seems pretty damn similar at a certain level with just minor differences in annual fee, categories, or something else.

Do you have a card that you absolutely love? Why?

This is very important thx

Amex Platinum. Mainly because I travel quite a bit, and I can just have concierge make reservations and get me tickets to stuff.   Plus, I'm hoping one day they give me the black card so I can use it at Publix and impress the fuck out of the high-schoolers 💪🏼😎

IMO nothing beats cash back.  A lot of the other stuff is gimmicks.  With that in mind, I use the Citi Double Cash card for literally everything.  As long as you don't carry a balance (pay it off in full every month), you get 2% cash back on EVERY purchase.  Cash it out at the end of every year and it's a nice little bonus!  Plus there are no annual fees, which is awesome.

I have several others but that's what I use primarily now that we're not traveling.  When I was traveling and expensing stuff, I used my Amex Platinum.  Lots of fun travel perks.

So you say "now that we're not traveling." Do you mean that you used to pull that card a lot for work travel, or you're also not doing personal travel now? I haven't slowed down with traveling, but cash back does seem to be a superior benefit.

I meant work travel.  I used to use the Amex card for that so I could keep all those expenses separate from my personal stuff.  And I could use it to rake in some travel benefits.  But for everyday life, I use the Citi card for everything.

We might start traveling again soon, so might have to break out the metal card!

If you're churning you're going for the subs. Regardless if it's Amex or Chase.

If you're looking for a good everyday card you need to figure out what's most important to you. There are many great cashback cards. Check out r/creditcards on Reddit.

Do you have a personal favorite? I am leaning towards miles over the other main perks.

I'm not traveling so I can't justify the expense of the Amex Platinum right now. Streaming, groceries, and dining are more important to me now so I have chosen cashback. The Chase Sapphire line has high sign up bonuses at the moment, as do other companies. Again I'd check Reddit. You can get higher bonuses through referrals posted too.

I just realized I didn't answer you but my favorite card for cashback (at the moment) is the Amex Blue Cash Preferred. And if you like my advice upvote it 🥳

It used to be Chase Sapphire Reserve, but they increased their annual fee to $550, which is just getting pretty outrageous. Even if we can return to travel soon, I want to find a new card for travel... but I do love the heavy weight of the card, which is a dumb reason to keep it but still have it nonetheless.

I just got the Amex Blue Cash Preferred for groceries (6%) and gas+transit (3%). I like it and it's the highest I've seen for those categories (besides Costco gas).

A coworker specifically mentioned the weight of that one too.

There's just something satisfying about that heavy metal card going *plunk* on a table :)

The points guy did a good article on why he's keeping the reserve, but he does talk about pros and cons of reserve vs preferred, which may be helpful for you:  https://thepointsguy.com/news/why-im-keeping-my-chase-sapphire-reserve/

Chase Sapphire Reserve, however, there are lots of good rewards cards. Preferred is fine if you just want lower fees.

I currently have the Preferred, and have been thinking about the Reserve. The perks are certainly tempting.

If you are planning to take 1+ international trips a year it's worth it. Reminder that you effectively pay $300 less for the travel perks and get the free every 5 years Global Entry/TSA Pre check.

Chase or Costco’s credit card are your best options. Costco’s gives 4% back on gas, 3% on dining, plus the travel perks

Discover Card - hands down.  I have carried it since it's inception when it was owned by Sears.  No annual, Cashback, and, most importantly, incredible customer service.

Discover is very hard to beat.  Solid customer service.  Amazing security team.  And money back on every purchase.  HOWEVER... I only advocate credit cards when the full balance is paid every month!  Otherwise, it is foolish. (yes, I accept there are a few - very few - exceptions)

My favorite credit card is the company credit card

But, for personal use, I go with Amex
