What is your lighting setup?

I constantly look like I'm in a dungeon. Lenovo laptop integrated camera- but everyone on my team has the same PC and my camera is the only one that makes me look like I'm about to be included in a true crime documentary. I have natural light from a window next to my desk (imagine a clock around my desk- window is at 2), overhead light, standing lamp at 7ish, and a small ring light that I keep over my PC facing me above the camera.

What else can a gal do to look camera ready? I'm hybrid- so getting an external camera would be a PITA because I have to unhook my laptop every morning as I hit the pavement and reset up for zoom meetings in the afternoon.

What color are the walls? That is key in how the lighting appears.

The outdoor light isn't directly behind you, correct?

Nope! It’s to my side though- apparently my clock reference didn’t come through! 😂

I’m surprised with all of that it doesn’t look the best especially with a ring light, like that’s point of those

To be fair, it’s a SMALL one. I’m just lost on how to look good on these calls. Don’t care too much are the internal calls- but super awkward when I’m on with a prospect and I look like my next appt is a seance.

I have an external webcam mounted on my monitor (laptop next to it) and a desktop ring light next to it, as well as a desk lamp.

Definitely gets the job done.

Also make sure the angle on your webcam is good - nobody looks good from below.

the light at your side is probably casting a ton of shadows - you want light in front of you, which is why I have the ring light. Maybe you need a bigger/more powerful one. It sounds like the side light is the strongest and overpowering any impact of the ring.

So, I currently have an HP laptop, and am wishing I had a Lenovo.

That said, my little laptop has some ghetto tendencies (two of the keyboard keys have popped off and I CANNOT get them back on...anyway, sorry for the digression). The relevant one of these is that there's some kind of little lens on the internal camera that has somehow come loose and will obscure part or all of the lens itself. Careful tapping on the side of the monitor gets it to slide around like a shadow on a moon, so as of right now, I have a dark halo effect on one side of my camera. I'm not sure if that's something you can check on your end. I have never had this issue with Lenovo, so it's new to me.

For my part, as of right now, I use my mood lighting effect as an icebreaker, but long term, I'm sure it will be tedious.
