What kind of Account Model do you prefer to work?

We’ve had two models at our company. (Currently on the named account model)

An account based model (no boundaries, accounts are named to a rep ) and territory model (assigned by postal/zip codes).

We have territory, but they are looking to change to named accounts by vertical. It will be interesting.

I think named by vertical is the best, in my opinion.

I've done both. Each time we switch my blood boils but honestly I don't think it really makes a difference now that I think about it. Once you get in the groove and adapt, you make it work.

We do named by vertical and it works well. Especially selling software virtually. Our reps are assigned verticals we service and they work those types of accounts.

I think it depends on the industry also.

Both have pros and cons. I prefer territory for when I'm in town and can't hit a ton of prospects at once. Also people want what their neighbors have and typically know eachother. Referrals stringer in territory setup.

We work with named but in industry it's common to divide by territory

territory models, especially ones based on geography are so painful. Some comments below, vertical or company size based breakdowns are my preference, given the different skillsets and nuances across industries and organizations.

I have several years of experience in my geo and have gotten to know a lot of the accounts and partners in the region. It’s a well oiled machine at this point.

in EMEA it's a mix, territories are bigger though so sometimes you get verticals within a region
