What kind of base pay can you expect with a 3.5 million dollar annual quota?

I've been interviewing and I currently have a $900K annual quota with a job that has a 125k/125k package. What kind of base pay can I ask for with a 3.5 million dollar quota? 350k/350k? 250k? 150k? Not asking for a friend : __)

Depends.

I had $1.2M quota a few years back and base was $30,000 + 7% of every sale and 10% of every upcharge in the first year. I made about $110k - $120k annually in that position.

I think you should stick to the correlation. 350/350 sounds about right.

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a base that high. I carry a 2.5M quota with 150 base 305 ote for a large public software company. Might be worth taking a look at repvue, they’ve got great comp details

Agreed, seems high to get more than $150k base. I have seen companies with long sales cycles in Public Sector go higher but less variable comp. This is to bridge sales cycles which last 1-2 years.

Is that quota in revenue or profit?

Wait...has your quota actually ever been measured on profit?? If so that’s ludicrous and I’d like to know where you worked and what you sold lol

Haha...yup, my current quota/goal/whatever you want to call it, is based on Profit. I've been here 13 years, been that way the whole time. I work in the semiconductor/component distribution market.
Not trying to knock your question at all, but why is being measured on profit ludicrous?

Damn, that's wild. I guess it isn't ludicrous. Just new to me since I've always been under the assumption that quota was primarily revenue based and it was up to the executives to figure out a profitable sales strategy for the team. Interesting though

Yeah, I suppose it's definitely unique compared to a lot of other types of sales gigs for sure. I have a lot of freedom in terms of understanding costs and ability to set pricing. So margin is obviously incredibly important, thus the profit measurement.

Ultimately, I'm free to run my "business" how I choose. It does end up leading to some variability amongst the other salespeople here, with some operation on the higher end of the profit spectrum vs others that try to operate with a little more volume at a thinner spread.

Traditionally it's been a little harder for early-stage-of-their-career sales people to come in and really get a grip on the business. Could be due to the profit part but we tier the system to help with that.

$300k ( 150/150) OTE makes sense for that $3.5M annual quota ( assuming it’s an enterprise role) . You’d have to be the top 1% of 1% of 1% to get a $200k-300k base plus commission to sell any tech product unless it’s an 80/20 split with bonus.

Good to know! Thanks for the insight!

I’ve heard a company usually expects to earn at least three times an AEs OTE in ARR. I can imagine that changing a bit depending on companies that have higher ASP and lower deal volume

Without knowing anything about industry, location, company size 350/350 seems like a fair starting point

Nvm. I reread the OP question and understand now. Hot damn. That’s a nice gig if that’s a realistic ask.

Is that an Annual Recurring Revenue quota?

Depends on the margin. When I was a youngster selling low margin commodities, I routinely sold $3.5-$4M on next to nothing base. In fact, I almost choked reading this.

My quota is right around there and I’m 145 base 240 OTE

900k annual quota with 250K commission? I have a 1.2MM quota and will make about 205K OTE.

125 base and I get another 125 if I sell 900K worth of products and services

That's less than a 4:1 ratio. Typically it's 5:1, what industry is this and I'm guessing the margins are insane?

I think the margins are close to 30-40%

To make sure I understand, your current quota is $900k and you make 125 base / 125 commission correct?

Annual Review: Base Pay Increase?

Advice

FEELINGS- Your commission is annual (ARR) but the customer paid monthly (MRR) and if there is a churn in the next few months, the company will deduct by increasing your quota and taking the equivalent amount $$ from your quota in the next month.
