If they know the goal of different roles. When an SE comes into a deal, does exactly what they're supposed to do, and doesn't step on any toes/over-extend.ย

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
I could honestly write a book on how to be a SC that AEs love (I've been mostly lucky on this front). But here some quick points.

Love:
1. Willingness to collaborate and put thought into opportunities
2. Trust in my ability to do my job as the AE
3. A willingness to go outside the scope of "normal" functionality
4. Consultative approach that goes above and beyond just the features in the product
5. Knows when to listen
6. Takes excellent notes
7. Tries to actively get better at his or her job
8. Puts together relevant examples/success stories to customer questions
9. Able to communicate clearly what's important to them and what makes their jobs easier

Hate:
1. When he or she thinks he or she is the star of the show
2. Not listening to the AE
3. Zero schedule flexibility
4. Tardiness
5. Poor expectation setting

Absolutely great list. Another great SE trait is knowing where/who to go to in the engineering/product org to get the right answers and isn't embarrassed to not know the product inside and out.ย
