What new role have you taken on then regretted?

I was in an AM position after years of doing account management while prospecting for new biz (no separate new biz dev or SDR team). My boss came to me and asked me to join a new team he was putting together that was going to be strict new biz, which is more of what I enjoy, so based on the discussions we had around the role and comp, I decided to make the move.

I had to shed my account base and transition them all to other reps to take over before everything with the new role was finalized, and I bet you can see where this is going, the compensation changed at the 11th hour. I Couldn’t go back and reclaim my accounts, so I would have been stuck in an AM position with no accounts.

The role has turned into a glorified SDR job which feels like a step or two in the wrong direction.

So, what’s the worst move you’ve made? And what did you do when you realized it was a mistake?
