What's the Best Sales Compensation Software?

Hey Bravado community,

I've looked into different sales compensation software options and figured this community would be a goldmine of advice. With so many platforms out there promising to simplify commissions, bonuses, and performance tracking, I’m hoping you can help me sort through the noise.

Here’s what I’m curious about:

  • Ease of Use: Is the software easy to get up and running? Any headaches during setup or integration with CRM tools like Salesforce or HubSpot?
  • Flexibility: Have you found some tools to be more flexible when it comes to designing custom plans or tweaking commission structures?
  • Reporting & Analytics: How good are the reporting features? Can you actually get insights that help forecast sales and track commissions in real time?
  • Automation: Does it actually save you time and make life easier for sales ops? Does the software avoid manual tracking and reduce errors?
  • Scalability: Does it work well whether you’re a small team or scaling up? Some tools seem great for startups but struggle with larger sales orgs.
  • Cost vs. Value: Are you getting what you pay for? I’d love to hear if you think certain platforms deliver more bang for your buck.

Names like CaptivateIQ, Spiff, and Xactly dominate the market, but has anyone used ZenCentive, QuotaPath, or Performio?

Are there any tools you’d recommend (or suggest avoiding)? I’m looking for some real-world feedback.

Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts—excited to hear what’s worked for you all. Cheers!

As a rep, I like CaptivateIQ, Xactly sucked, no insight into the others.

Quotapath is pretty good. Xactly always seemed to have some sort of problem that prevented it from showing the correct numbers.
Personally, I preferred a spreadsheet template that I could plug in my quota numbers and closed won value.

No experience with any of them, but looks like your consensus is QuotaPath.

I'm surprised you're vetting these as an AE. What's the story here?

Xactly is not intuitive at all. We returned to spreadsheets.

I have used Quotapath, Spiff and captivate IQ. they're all commoditized at this point but spiff was my favorite from the end user experience, I believe it was sold but it's likely still very similar I can't speak for configuration from the back end.

I came from this industry, happy to answer any questions! CaptivateIQ is the most flexible, ease of self service... If you have complex plans or plans that change a lot, it's great. It's more of a financial modeling tool. Spiff is easy to use and better UI but sort of works with it's own coded language.

I'd stay away from Xactly and Performio. Xactly is legacy, hasn't been updated in decades. Performio is just not...good. lol. I do not know about Zencentive

Depends also on how much do they deliver for the rep. All of these software’s fail on rep experience. Reps struggle with how plans are calculated what was included / not included and why. I think all tech jargon is great but do these really help the precious commodity? Sales

I have seen some neat AI advances recently that make building plans, adjustments and breeze and they even let you work from comfort of excel

Wow lots of hate on Xactly. I actually like that tool quite a bit (but have no comparisons). We have super complex billing, and being able to look back through and click into the numbers each month/q is extremely helpful.
That being said, its the only commercial tool I've used.

Ideally, the comp plan is simple enough that excel will do it. Get fancy and maybe use Tableau if you have a large team.

Have Xactly now. It's garbage. Contradicts itself and apparently is super time consuming to update / manage for our rev ops team.

Used to have Tableau as an SFDC dashboard. Was more intuitive, but still somehow the automated feeds always have issues.
