Should you circumvent recruiters when applying for a job?

Going to be totally honest, I can't stand 99% of the recruiters I talk to. They remind me of the worst and most stereotypical reps I've ever encountered. I also feel like my odds of landing a job are a lot less when I go through them vs. a referral or knowing someone on the inside.

So therein lies the problem, how do you find your way in the side door of a company if you don't have any connections that work there? I have cold LI messaged VP of Sales / Director of Sales / etc on LI and that works sometimes but it's pretty rare.

Reason I ask is I sometimes don't check boxes (don't have a degree, 5yrs of selling experience, etc) but have always been a top performing AE. This can sometimes prevent me from getting past the screen.

Any advice from past experience is appreciated

It wouldn't be advantageous to do that. The recruiter has the relationship with the hiring manager. Doesn't matter if you hate the recruiter, you won't have to talk to them very long anyway.

The recruiter also is the interview coordinator 99% of the time... even if you backdoor the hiring manager they will intro you to the recruiter to coordinate at a minimum.

3rd party recruiters usually know the company well / have relationships / can coach you through the process. They're a necessary evil.

No because somehow you will be directed back to the recruiter.

I would be curious what your messages look like. Are they specifically tailored to the job you want or do you have 1 template that you use for all?

I don't use a template, I usually just pitch myself as a top performing AE that can help them get to their quota. Nothing fancy but I do get a pretty good response rate.
