I've called peoples spouses before. I'm in financial services, so our clients decisions directly affect their families of course - but there was a HUGE client who was dragging his feet for four months...

I called his wife and thoughtfully recalled the client's stated motivations for wanting to work with us in the first place. Chief among those, of course, was his desire to protect his wife and kids and to be able to have a very high level of liquidity and flexibility at a certain age.

3 hours later we received the investment docs back from him with a long email describing how sorry he was for the delay and that he appreciated our high level of communication and personal approach!

That's a bold strategy, cotton... GLAD IT PAID OFF! haha! Did you give him a heads up that you were calling his wife or got any sort of permission to call her beforehand?

I did not give him a heads up, but his wife was involved with all of our previous meetings except for the initial introductory call. Had to risk it to get the biscuit.

I bartered a 400k acquisition between a native American tribe and an F500 communications company. The tribe owned a 1000 ft comm tower and couldn't afford the number of people shooting at the FAA lights on it. We sold new, none light pollution LEDs to the comm company and boom, instant close of 400k reoccurring 5-year contract.

Love the story, and LOVE they were light pollutions LEDs. Are 5-year contracts fairly common in your industry/company? I remember AEs would get a bonus for any 3+ years contracts. It was rare to see a deal close for anything above 3 years.

Let's just say I don't work with that company anymore because of their non-existing comp plan.
