Marketing once ran a promo to get more meetings. Made us (SDRs)  all mention it that week. $50 cash BEFORE the meeting. Despite sales pushback on how obviously dumb this promo was, CEO signed off since CMO was his relative. I set a ton of meetings but absolutely no one showed up (shocker) The only people stupid enough to show up after getting free money were, as you may have guessed, really stupid. Ended up wasting a ton of sales floor's time, and we got blamed for it. People literally got fired for marketing being idiots. I'm still pissed and this was over a year ago...

One time during SXSW I was invited to a customer event hosted by Salesforce. I’ve done SXSW a few times so I know the bigger the company, the more money they’re throwing down. Especially for clients. I go to this event and it’s literally JUST me as a client. There are more people working the bar than clients. Probably 20 Salesforce employees, 5 bartenders/food servers, and me.

They had me pose for photos with a few different groups to prove ANYONE showed up, then they took me out to a very fancy dinner and drinks because they had a ton of budget. They probably spent more on this party for me than my annual contract.

So it wasn’t my marketing department, but I enjoyed it.
