What’s up with random people endorsing you for skills they wouldn’t know anything about?

I’ve seen this play out a couple of ways. I’ve had a few people send a connection request on LI and when I accept (I accept all requests), they say they endorsed me for a few skills if I didn’t mind.

Just an hour ago, I got a notification on LI that said some dude endorsed me for a bunch of skills. I don’t know him AT all. I ain’t complaining, buuut is this accepted behavior?

Do you endorse random people or have random people endorsed you?

I think new LI users will see the option on the top of the page and select a few until the algorithm is finished.

I've seen all the hubbub about this on linkedin ect. I think it's less about offending people but more the psychological aspects of the question. I think what they're getting at is when you frame it as 'does this make sense?' The recipient is more apt to say yes because they don't want to admit that it might have been over their head or they need it broken down further (Barney style lol). I've thought a lot about it and although I have no idea what the data is or if there is any data behind it, I'm all for shifting the context of the question and making it about my ability to explain something.

So G2 gives out badges to companies/software’s every summer, winter, spring and fall based on reviews they receive, number of unique visitors and a bunch of stuff.

When a lead answers the phone for the first time in history only to scream at me to stop calling my first reaction is to laugh really loud. I don't even think about it.
