I took this post personally. Some of these words, though meaningless and souless are psychological triggers. They have connotation that pushes customers in an certain direction. They can be really valuable. I refuse to agree there’s anything wrong with aligned, strategic or chat. Pretty damn generic imo. The rest… I feel ya fam.

You're right I believe using the same generic terms as your competitors pushes your prospect to put you in the same box as them. Differentiate in your terms and pitch to set yourself apart. Chat makes think of all the shitty emails people send asking for "10 mins to chat?". Strategic makes me think of all the inflated titles you see on Linkedin. Aligned isn't as bad but still overused!

Nah, again I disagree. I’m extremely articulate. I won’t use language like chat in a cold email, or even in the first few. But after I have rapport, I won’t hesitate to use chat. Casual, generic word. Says I only need to capture 5-10 mins of time for a brief and informal conversation. Chat has a specific connotation. It’s almost valuable to press that same, familiar, button. Strategic, the way I referenced, I’ll almost never use in an email or in written form. I agree with you on the overuse. It’s just bullshit. But conversationally, strategic MEANS something useful. That’s why it’s a word. Omitting it just because other people use it is weak. As long as I use it better, I’m good.

As always depends on the context of the situation. If you're on a personal level, the door is open as long as there is value behind the intent which it sounds like that's your case. Seems like we're in agreement behind the overuse!

Call out.

It has permeated our entire company, and it’s sickening. Every time someone adds ANYTHING of value now, or complains…

“Good Callout Carl! We did fuck up your budget numbers!”

“You forgot to mute yourself.”
”Nice Call out!”

if you use it, I will ignore you.
