I'm reading The Inevitable: Understanding the 12 Technological Forces That Will Shape Our Future by Kevin Kelly and it has me pondering how much technology has changed in the past 30 years and how much it's going to continue to change over the next 30 years. In the book, he details how he had a meeting with some big whigs over at ABC around 30 years ago to explain the internet to them and they wouldn't take his advice to purchase the abc.com domain. These executives couldn't imagine the internet would turn into the collaborative tool it has become. No one expected consumers to be creating massive amounts of content in various forms and no studio had the time, money, and resources to create content at a pace that would satisfy the demand. Like the ABC executives most people would have never imagined the internet would become what it is today and I'm sure the internet is going to look completely different in another 30 years. Would love to hear savage's bold predictions on the technologies they think will end up dominating our lives. My prediction is things like neural link will make language barriers obsolete and this will allow for more global commerce, communication, and travel. I'm also hopeful crypto will become a global currency so people don't ever have to worry about dealing with horrible middlemen when they need to exchange their domestic currency for a foreign one.
