What to buy for a home office?

My company has officially transitioned to WFH for the foreseeable future. As a result, they have allotted each of us $500 for purchases related to our home offices. What would everyone's recommended purchase, or purchases be?

This. So much.  I had them at a few companies I worked for - and bought a run of the mill desk that doesn't have this option and I can honestly say I miss it so much.

I have a giant L-shaped desk right now, that I honestly love. Have you used one of those adjustable raisers you can place on top of your desk?

Mrs. Rogasm bought a desk from Flexispot. Pretty good quality for the price. TBH they're all made in the same factory in China. The only difference is the motors on some of these desks.

Costco has adjustable standing desks, I saw them when I was in there earlier today (at least my local one). I know they are for sale online as well.

This. I got a VIVO electric standing desk frame on Amazon for like $300, and then spent $200 on a butcher block surface from Home Depot. Thing is the best

Do they need adequate sunlight though? My office doesn't have the most natural light, so I am not trying to kill plants

You can find indoor plants that don't require direct sunlight or low light. I like the ZZ plant a lot, but here's a couple other great options:  https://www.cillawnandgarden.com/en/tips/indoor-gardening/5-indoor-plants-grow-without-sunlight

No specific chair recommendations...really depends on your ergo likely/dislikes.

@CJE have you tried the PuttOut before? https://www.amazon.com/PuttOut-Pressure-Putt-Trainer-Perfect/dp/B01N9BXYW3/

My boyfriend just got it and it drives me crazy bc you need literally the perfect putt to get it in the elevated hole. Helps with your regular putting game though haha since as long as you hit anywhere in the white circle that means you would have made it in real life.

Since it seems most of the bigger items have already been mentioned:

Laptop Dock & Laptop Stand
- My laptop is closed and completely vertical, and even though my desk isn't tiny it saves so much space and is very easy to plug in / out if I need to leave the room, etc.

Someone else mentioned not this, but I bought a foot massager as well - when I'm in Zoom meetings where I'm on mute for 90% of the time, it's been a game changer.

What type of laptop do you have, and what is the docking station you use? I am a mac guy, so I wouldnt mind a docking station honestly.

What is the foot massager you got? I have wanted one for a while now, but most are pretty pricey, so I haven't committed to it just yet.

I recently bought a Lenovo IdeaGaming Pad, or something along that line.  I tried a handful of different docs, but the one that seemed to work the best was one that Dell makes.  A quick download of the software, and I was able to dual/triple monitor without issue.  I have a Mac I use as well - but haven't tried connecting it yet. That same one works for Mac as well, just need the USB-C adapter to plug into the dock!

Foot massager was a Renpho - wouldn't say its the best one I've ever had; but it does the job!

Good luck!

WFH credentials: almost 4 years. The essentials: adjustable height desk (so that you can support arms for typing, and standing capabilities are a bonus, an ergonomic chair (Aeron rules and available for cheap refurbished, but sayl is the best low price model from Herman Miller with all of the perks), external monitor, keychron keyboard, Logitech MX master 3 to dominate that chrome and spreadsheets game, roost or next laptop stand, and last but not least, a DeLonghi Dedica ec685 to pull a perfect espresso at home.

A decent headset or airpod pros is a must. You can get a serviceable desk from Ikea for pretty cheap but a stand-up desk can change the game for you!

On the real though, I got a triple monitor setup on a standing desk with a hammock for my feet underneath, a 500$ chair is a must for me too sometimes I'm at the computer 8AM - 11 PM -

I spend about 1/3rd time seated, sometimes yogic sometimes feet planted, 1/3rd time standing, and then 1/3rd the time with my feet up underneath my desk, theres a bunch of articles on the kinisthetics of standing tables, right heights, postures, etc that lead to better blood flow and nervous system operation and therefore performance. Most of the research suggests sitting with your feet on the ground is actually super bad for your nervous system and leads to a plethora of nervous issues, that sitting yogic(as if you were on the floor) is actually really good for you, and then also that standing toward the tail end of the day can dramatically increase your productivity and I can definetly feel that

Good luck getting your shit together! It's a bit of a hassle but it feels good when its done.

Things I have that make a huge difference: Logitech 922 cam. Yet I blue mic. Rode boom, pop filter and suspension. Razer basilisk ultimate mouse. Logitech headphones. Envato lights. Envato streamdeck. 2 monitors and 7.2 surround sound heavy on the bass.

Things I want: Dslr webcam. Shure SM7B mic. Shure SE846.

Gotta look and sound good on those zoom calls.
