What type of product do you sell and are you passionate about it?

As I am changing careers, I thought it important to look into an industry that I am really interested in and passionate about, specifically for me at the moment, from what I have found in my research, I feel drawn towards SaaS companies tha are providing and selling platforms that help reduce companies carbon footprints and help the world in some small way towards climate change... This may change, as I see so many different markets and I have a lot of interests!
Super interested to hear about your industry's and if you feel passionate/interested in it, then why?

Sell cloud security SaaS. Love everything about it. Pay is good, deals are plentiful, and stopping bad guys and breaches makes feel good.

Been thinking about cloud security a bit for my next move. Iโ€™ve been keeping an eye on Dark Trace, Crowd Strike, Arctic Wolf, and Snyk openings. I know those arenโ€™t all apples to apples though.

I sell human services. Writing, editing, and instructional design. I sell from single emails ($250) to multinational multi-year training programs (1m+). My average is somewhere in the 60k.

Know what? I fucking love it. Itโ€™s an absolute nightmare, but it lets me be smart. It lets me talk about how content is critical. It lets me shine in recognizing those gaps that are second nature to me.

Know what else? I fucking hate it. I have to rely on other people to do their god damn job and it is wildly unpredictable. And I end up talking to people a whole lot about how humans are wild and unpredictable.

So 50/50?

great question. I am in the life sciences space and its super niche.ย

I cant say that I am particularly passionate about the product that I sell, but I am passionate that it is a really GOOD product that would really help organization improve if they use it.ย

I do belive that if you are passionate (or at least really into) the product you sell, you will have a more enjoyable career.ย

but if you dont have a strong pull for the product, hopefully you can identity that the results it brings are good.ย

if you dont have ether of those.....yikes.

Software for field service companies. I donโ€™t love the software but similar to Tennisandsales answer, I see the results companies get and that keeps me going.

Selling to small businesses and the deals are plentiful. But Iโ€™d love to move up market to bigger deals - potentially in the security space or CRM. I like the idea of helping companies drive revenue too. So Iโ€™ve got to narrow it down.

less than 5% of people selling under a SAAS business model have any passion about what they sell. For the most part they do it because the barrier to entry is relatively low and they make more money than someone that spent 6 years in college and grad school.ย

Digital marketing: SEO, Ads, social media, etcโ€ฆ and a basic crm that tracks seo as well as a couple other things too

Itโ€™s definitely something thatโ€™s important, especially nowadays. But if you sell them only on SEO feels like youโ€™re selling them an empty promise since itโ€™s something that takes a lot of time to achieve. Not to mention most marketing agencies have a 3month promise which isnโ€™t false but isnโ€™t completely true since you canโ€™t really put a timeline on it especially for larger cities.

I see a lotttttt of clients cancel due to us not staying consistent In checking up so unfortunately they usually feel as if they got scammed, took the money, and ran. That being said, I promise weโ€™re a legit company ๐Ÿ˜‚

I sell a logistical returns service. The premise is incredibly boring hence why we donโ€™t have a problem in closing but explaining what we do is very tedious. Itโ€™s almost like I want them to ask technical and hard questions! Not stimulating, mentally, but rewarding.

Yeah I mean I don't know where you're messaging from - my market may be different. I'm in Sydney, Australia.

Insights just in case though: the recruitment market's great for anyone who can help an organisation find candidates faster.ย

It's extraordinarily candidate short; competition's extremely tough; and people're trying everything to be seen as an employer of choice.

Common trends at the moment are organisations trying to:

1. Access talent directly (direct marketing, hiring drives, talent pooling & nurturing etc.)
2. Optimise EVP (Employee Value Proposition) building activities - basically anything that can help a company be seen as a better employer (including stuff like equal opportunity initiatives, better perks, etc.)
3. Build an Employer Brand - similar to above, but specifically with respect to branding activities. Marketing campaigns, market awareness building, brand-building activities etc.ย

So like Employer Branding activities includes anything that answers the question of "who are these people, and what are they about" and EVP activities includes anything that answers the question of "why should I actually work for these people, and how well do they align with me".

If the solution you'll be selling uniquely addresses any aspect of the above (uniquely being the operative word) - assuming your context's similar to mine will mean it's probably worth a serious crack.

Best of luck - hope it all goes well!
