What was the cringiest thing your company did this holiday season??

ok one more holiday post because I am always curious what companies do. My company did a virtual "toast". they sent us all drinks in the mail and then we all got on a zoom and talked about what we were thankful for ect. Not a TERRIBLE idea....but the lady thats in charge is just......not great and it turned out being super awkward and forced.

What was the cringiest thing your company did this Holiday season?

I can one up that - they hosted a virtual holiday party that was cocktail making, but didn't pay for the drinks and we were required to shop for the ingredients ourselves. Then the manager, who everyone secretly hates, started out the meeting by insinuating there would be layoffs this year.

That's when you forget about the cocktails and go straight for shots.

So the manager thinks, right before everyone starts drinking. This will be the perfect time to let them know about the layoffs

Thankfully none of these. Previous company sent pajamas and requested everyone take family pictures.

The entire months of December and July are "PTO black out" months for our sales team. I totally get it since those are the months that we close the most deals (nature of the industry we sell into). Still kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth, mostly because I don't like being told what I can't do lol

yeah i HATE that shit. im not in 10th grade, dont tell me what I can and cant do with my PTO.

the only time i was cool with this was i worked at a company that gave us the week between xmas and new years off. They just asked that the week before and week after we didnt take additional PTO.

it was cool with that since that is my least favorite week to work haha

We have a built in winter break as well, so I'm in the same boat. This year we were off from the 23rd to the 2nd. Yesterday was the first day back. Can't really complain!

We were asked not to take time off. There were 'exciting' leaderboards and competitions organised for sales people to close more in the holiday season !
A lot of folks definitely closed a lot!
Those who didn't take time off were celebrated by the management and leadership.

Not sure if it's a good thing - but I was unperturbed by any of this!

We had a virtual party and it was especially awkward because we're international so for some of us, the party was at 9am and we had a whole day of work afterward.

Mine did a virtual party letting all us remote people see what was happening at HQ - pretty lame. I was on for less than 2min.

CEO wrote a scathing company wide letter about our churn and then said the real holiday bonus was time off so we should use our โ€œunlimited PTOโ€ policy during the holidays.

I loathe, loathe, loathe the fact that I am management and had to participate in an awards ceremony. It was so much of management patting itself on the back. As a virtual company isn't part of the benefit not having to sink all our time in to stupid office politics?
