What was your first sales job?

What was your first sales job? Let’s here those near stories!

If you don’t count selling Popcorn in the Boy Scouts, my first sales job was in car sales. At 18 I got a job at a Buick, Pontiac and GMC. 12 hour days 6 days a week and I thought I was rolling in dough at 18 and I was comparatively. I remember having sales where we increase the price of the sticker and slashed it back down to the original. I also backed a $70,000 truck into a lamppost my second week.

Door to door selling those entertainment books. The ones where it costs the same as a round of gold, but you get 3 rounds free and a bunch of 50% off. Second day on the job had a dog come around the corner of the house and latch onto my arm (luckily I had a leather jacket on). The owner bought the rest of the stack as a trade for me not calling the cops. Won my first spiff that day too! $100 💵

I've never met a fellow salesperson who wasn't selling from a young age - I used to bring in Little Debbies and pawn them off to kids for their lunch money in my early years.

First "legit" job (though there were no benefits and I probably made less than the snack cakes) was dialing for life insurance dollars - the darkest year of my life, but it got me to where I am.

First "real" sales job was selling insurance D2D.  Nothing more humbling than strolling down a residential street at dinner time knocking on doors while folks are getting ready to or have already begun to eat dinner.

I still remember the canned pitch when they open the door "... and we can get cash paid directly to you in case of emergencies.  It's quick, easy, and hassle-free."
