What would it take for you to legit block someone from joining?

Complete hypothetical, but as you know, SAAS is a tiny fishbowl. So, have you ever blocked a fellow AE from joining your company? If so, what's the trigger? Guy was a slacker? Unethical? A drunk?

I haven't done that. I try to be honest if a hiring manager asks me about a colleague, but if he or she was relatively competent I give a thumbs up, even if they didn't hit their number.

Be honest and factual. Leave emotional opinions out of it.

I just give my honest feedback. Would that person truly be a good fit all-around?

I work in a small industry, people talk. Assholes seem to get picked up 1x-2x times before everyone knows and then poof. Out of industry.

I Have not but if my manager asked me what I thought about someone im 100% being honest. my word is to valuable to just make shit up about someone i know is not a good fit.

A very long time ago, I was asked about someone with whom I used to work. She was very negative, had problems with alcohol (no judgement about that, but it made her unreliable) and I knew she would be a bad fit for our team. All I had to say was that I thought she wouldn’t be a fit. That was enough.

Depends if the manager comes up to asking my thoughts vs me coming up to her saying someone is a bad fit.

No matter what you have to be horrible for me to say anything to block you from getting a job

I am not sure if it's just my personality trait, unless the fellow AE is absolutely a lost cause and does not do shit, a pathetic person too - only then I'd say a no. For all else, I'd just say "Yeah, maybe give them a shot and see". :D

Further expanding on my thoughts. If a hiring manager asks my opinion and I give a thumbs up to a less than A player, I call said person and say "I put in a good word, but don't let me down, let's work together on making this a success."

Anyone ruined getting a meeting by being too impatient after they suggest times but don't confirm straight away?

I’ve scheduled a vaca with the fam for middle of Sept. in Disney so not sure if that counts as vacation…anyway, do you sales gangsters try to unplug when your OOO or do you still check in? I would like to check out, I think I need it. Just curious.
