What would make you leave?

I’ve fielded multiple recruitment messages recently (from CEOs/VPs/hiring managers themselves - not actual recruiters). I take the meeting because I think it’s always good to know what the offer is and expand my network, but as someone who is fairly happy with my current position, I’m curious what would entice others to leave an all together ok current job. Raise? Higher level? Extra benefits? Something else? What’s most important?

Bad culture, shitty management, a much higher salary, product I like better or am more interested in

Just left this. Pinned it on our Global VP of sales and VP of America sales during exit interview. A) do you see everybody leaving? B) do you care?

Every year territory issues, nobody can sell, unattainable quotas, got rid of SPIFs a couple years ago, picking P club criteria AFTER seeing how people start off the year. Just complete lack of insight into their frontline reps.

I'd boil it down to 1 question, "Have I dreaded getting up in the morning for more than a 60-90 day period?" We all have good and bad quarters, sure, but I've had awful quarters and loved coming to work and phenomenal quarters where I can't wait to get to the weekend. Are you happy?

Yes! Life is too short to be truly miserable.

Agreed 100%. If I was miserable, I’d be actively seeking. (Been there, done that)

Nothing drives me closer to insanity than when internal teams (i.e. Sales Operations, Legal, Implementation) are understaffed and slow down sales cycles.

Man, tough one. The best jobs come when you don't want/need one, I feel you. I also like to build network and tell them I'm not looking. They are usually respectful and "pitch" the job but j tell them timing is off and we talk about what it would take to leave, then write your ticket. You want more $, higher level, equity? That's the time and send them looking for it.

Very good advice. It’s hard when you’re not actively seeking, but when propositioned you start thinking “well...” But I guess you kind of have the upper hand in that situation and can “write your ticket,” as you say. Love that phrase. I think my worry is not evaluating everything a fully as I should and ending up in a worse spot. (For me, money/benefits isn’t everything)

Agree. Money and bennies are nice but work life balance and interest in my job with belief in their product and company is just as (if not more) as important

Culture, bad management, and career growth. I was extremely happy in one of my positions, we had a complete management change, and it's amazing how quickly things changed.

More money, better benefits, meaningful product, advancement opportunities, less internal red tape.

That red tape is definitely a good one to consider and evaluate. But how do you determine the red tape at the potential new company before working there?

Research. Reach out to current reps. They will talk.

Bad management, no recognition, no in advance pay after consistently hitting goal for a long period of time. No chance for genuine advancement or growth.

I wouldnt leave. Too happy and too paid.
Even these huge OTE offers. 350k OTE and equity means nothing because I can see you r entire sales team is brand new every 6 months and none of them hit.
