what would you do?

I was laid off from my previous job and took the first offer to come my way - new industry selling a service instead of a product. I was told the OTE and was impressed, and told I wouldn't have to try hard at all as there was so much inbound demand that everyone was exceeding it. Of course now several months in and all I do is prospect and outbound all day despite us having a BDR/SDR team and I haven't seen anything to indicate I'll be able to reach half of the commission I was told would be so easy unless I want to put in 12+ hour days every week and prospect more than everyone else - and even then, there's still no guarantee I'll make my OTE.

it's a company that is good to last through a recession and checks a lot of my boxes like remote work, decent benefits, etc. But I have a hard time wanting to stay here - but I also know that I shouldn't be ungrateful and expect money to fall into my lap without hard work. Any advice? should I apply to other jobs and see what's out there?

OTE is not a promise.  Many people, especially those who really need a job, don't ask how the company will help them achieve that OTE.

Its not bad to use your current job as a springboard into another.  I once took a new position and in the first 30 days realized it was a BAD one.  Used the next 9 months as a paid job search.

Work hard til 5 and then hunt for something new.

And use this as a learning experience.

i would add that you can do whatever you want during lunch hour and any breaks you take during the day.

yes see what else is out there and dont take jobs based off of OTE.

Base salary and any other guarantee compensation is what matters (Not equity).

Most companies should understand your situation without too much explaining.

and like Fox said, check out the jobs tab

Every company says this and it’s rarely ever true, even if true the inbound leads are mostly trash. If you aren’t catching grief and there is an understanding that the grind will pay off not sure how much you want to test the current market

never hurts to shop around for jobs. Gotta do what's best for you and your bank account.
