Hahaha needless to say I have got immediate hang up, it catches them off guard and they don't know what to say!
Guys...stop using the "I don't have a list". You have a list, they want to be on the list of people in your CRM that have opted out of communication. Just accept that and move on.

To be fair, I don't always have a list I work off. Sometimes I call organizations because they're closely related to other clients we work with and it might be a good fit. We work with a lot of non-profits, so often I'm calling and saying hey, we work with this org you have a relationship with.
That said, I still respect that they're asking not to be contacted. I just tell them why I'm calling them specifically and say "I'll be sure to make note that you don't wish to be contacted again."

I actually listen to them and then move on. How often have you actually converted one of these people into a customer? My guess is zero times, maybe once or twice. It's not worth pissing them off

ACTUALLY!!! I can say that I put them out normally 5-6 months, and next time call and joke around...and can say I have set multiple meetings lol
Try the 'No worries, will do, but just to educate myself can I ask why you aren't interested in X?'
