When you’re writing a reply email to your initial one sent - what’s your approach?

I know many will do "just wanted to bump this" or it will be a short sentence summary of the previous email. How do you all approach this? What structure do you have the most success?

What @poweredbycaffeine said.  If your original email requested a meeting and provided a date/time, sometimes I'll just reply with only an update to my availability. "Hey Steve, I've had a schedule conflict and now I'm looking at August 13th afternoon- that work for you?"

Usually I use that tactic when they don't respond to email #1 at all, I've had success but only with really high level executives- I assume it goes back to them not remembering that we didn't actually set a meeting in the first place.

Yep. If you tell them they just lost a time slot, it shows they need to put in effort too

Ah, the old resend! There's 2 types of resends: ones to prospects who have NEVER replied to you, and ones to prospects who are mid-process. The strategy differs depending on which one you are re-emailing:

Never Responded: I don't like to put in a lot of effort here. If the prospect has received an email and didn't respond... it's unlikely that a clever 2nd email will change their mind. So instead, I go with 2 basic moves:

a. Instead of hitting Reply, I hit Forward. That way, it shows up as "Fwd: Prospect - Chat re: your open AE role?". Which leads to a small chance the prospect will reopen the email thinking it's a forward from someone else. Improves open rates by 15-20% on average.

b. I love the message by @MrsTechSales below; I use something similar. Typically "Hi Prospect - turns out my daughter decided that tomorrow afternoon was blocked for piano! (see pic below). Any chance we could chat Friday or Monday between 10-1pm PST instead?" I love sticking a little cute baby pic in there, especially to older execs. Kids convert.

Has already responded, now ghosting: Here, I put in more effort. Instead of just "repinging", I will again forward the email but this time write a completely novel message:

"Hi Prospect - something interesting happened. I was speaking with [RELEVANT CLIENT] and they brought up “INTERESTING FEATURE THAT YOU ARE INTO]. I did some digging and realized that we could actually [DO SOMETHING COOL THAT YOU WOULD WANT], which could help you save some time. Anyway, looking forward to our sync - did you have time on Friday or Monday between 10-1pm to walk through the proposal and I can answer questions?"

I prefer the "Hey, bumping this up to the top of your inbox in case you missed it.", putting a bit of the onus on them for not responding to me. I find that my bump-up emails have a mildly higher reply rate than a new subject line when it's in a cadence.

I find they're not really 'missing' your email, they saw it and ignored it.  I prefer not to exacerbate our reputation of being naggy and try to pattern interrupt, be human and ultimately add value or else highlight to them that your time is valuable (without making them feel bad) but by sharing a leave behind that requires nothing from them.

I hate any form of touching base email. The quickest way to get ignored is to "check in".

So I intentionally hold back on useful information. If I know they are 4 points that are relevant to a particular prospect I will reply to my first email with "Hey Jack, Was thinking about this further..." and add in those additional thoughts.

If you want to get someone's attention to a previous email, use VM for that. Break the pattern and show you genuinely want to make their business better.

I just realized I used genuinely while being extremely manipulative... I blame all of you for not watching the HR videos and intervening

I end all emails with action items - this way when I follow up I simply reference the action items. Whether that is looking for an update or pushing for a follow up call.

If your double/triple emailing with no response, probably worth giving them a call.

"Hey Name - following up on this. Appreciate your feedback, either way."
Very solid response rate.

"please advise" has gotten me away from the "maybe" on followups better than anything else.

I like to play the "dumb blonde" Hey Prospect I am so sorry but I can't remember how we ended our last conversation. I was so busy that day and did not put anything down on my notes. What day and time did we set up to chat? Usually works well because they don't want to be the "dumb blonde" either.

For all you mail mergers out there, do you see more success emailing one DM or all DMs on a custom thread? I've noticed that putting all relevant DMs on one campaign that is 100% customized to their business has a much higher response rate (28% meeting sucess)
