Where do you draw the line for beginner day 1 reps vs intermediate reps

so while building training modules we are constantly discussing what is beginner vs intermediate skills and trying to balance enough value to maximize the successes of our beginners. while being careful not to teach them so much that they stumble or freeze over advanced methods before they have the skills or confidence to execute.

beginner ( BDR to SDR)

Shadow SR SDRS

tech stack

CRM management

Cadences

email outreach (personalization tokens)

reporting

researching

disqualifying BANT

basic hello intros

basic objection handling (gap method)

discovery

value prop

close

handoff

commissions

career path

intermediate, SR SDR to AE

Shadow AE's

intermediate medpic qualifiers

intermediate objection handling

intermediate discovery with emotional anchoring (mic drop style)

intro to enterprise sales

intro to account-based sales

override commissions

intro to AE training.

Do you teach beginners how to disqualify?

Do you teach them objection handling frameworks or just a couple of scripted answers?

Do they do data entry for lead contact details? or do you just hand them a list?

do you change their pay structure as they upskill?

Where do you draw the line for beginner day 1 reps and intermediate reps

If your training modules are anything like this post, aka complex and overly communicative, then we need to have an overhaul discussion.

You're typing as you're thinking haha you may need to re-read and edit before you post as I kinda get your point, but I can see why everyone else is struggling.

I'd say beginners should answer what they're going to be doing 70 to 80% of the time. And then intermediate covers the rest plus a few more shortcuts?

Truth is every company can draw that line in a different place because in not only depends on the company processes but also on the level of the internal employees.

I feel bad for the other commenters not adding much value, especially when they criticize comish farming so much. Hope you get closer to the answer you're looking for.

Thoughts on hiring sales reps based EQ versus IQ? I have hired more on EQ than IQ with a hint of hunger to make more in comms than IQ. What are your thoughts and what would you normally go for?
