Where my early stage dawgs at?

So I've recently been hired as sales rep #2, company hire number 14 at a small conversational AI company. I'll be the first rep on the ground in EMEA and responsible for growing the client base/team.

How do you, as an early stage rep:

  • Narrow your focus on what is a massive territory/opportunity (i.e EMEA region)
  • Organise your day/week so you feel like you're making progress
  • Approach and pitch clients when you don't have product market fit and are still working a lot of things out?

Basically, how the fk do keep sane and break down the massive work ahead to feel in control.

I’ve been in this situation a few times. First, I would recommend setting up 30 minutes with every other employee at the company. There is only 14 of you so it won’t take much time. But it will give you a clear understanding what everyone’s goals are and what everyone believes your product is doing/going to do. Second. Build out your ICP. Make sure it as clear as possible and focus all your outbound efforts on that specific ICP. Also pick specific verticals which your product will add value. Finance/banks, tech, insurance etc. Third - focus on the problem your are fixing not your solution. If you meet with prospects dive as deep into the problem as possible. Get their perspective. Use it for product feedback as well. That is usually where I start.

Love this Mooney. This is a great starting point, solid comment. Saving this for when/if I move to another startup and join a small team.
