Where to recruit sales guns-for-hire (that is NOT Bravado)?

Rule #3 = No Recruiting so that said - I am NOT recruiting in this community!

However, Rather - any tips/suggestions of where to recruit salespeople looking for side hustles, besides LinkedIn?

My friend's professional services company just setup shop and they're looking for sales reps who want to do some calls on the side (around 5-10 hours a week) to set onsite visits for more-than-fair commissions. Average sale = a couple hundred bucks upfront, with strong variables in place for any other services upsold for first year. But it's not a salaried position, just eat-what-you-kill role...with the 'killing' being setting appointments that have a 90% close-rate.

I tried googling a few sales forums / places to post this...but no real winners yet. The reddit /r/salesjobs looks dead. Maybe I just need to hunt for SDRs/AEs on Linkedin?

Thank you for any advice for places to post side hustles!

This type of position is tough because there's a lot of noise to signal ratio on the job market with stuff like this: part time, high commission sales roles that promise a lot, at new companies. You'll also likely get a lot of tire kickers and low quality candidates as a result.

IMO referrals are the best way to drive this kind of recruitment. You might try using that-other-place to amplify your message and vet candidates quickly.

That's a very fair point.

I told him there'd definitely be tire kickers to deal with when you go this route, but didn't think about it the way you framed it with the noisy market of 'this is being offered all the time, everywhere.'

He paid $$$ for a sales consultant who gave him a playbook to help onboard future talent, so maybe he can position that to stand out a little bit... but he should still expect some tire kicking.

The problem is that companies that are serious and have a good product will hire full time employees because they want driven people putting in all their effort. The perception - fair or not - is that a part time position may be at a weak company with a weak product.

Can I ask why he's only going the part timer route? I understand he's now sunk a bunch of cost into the sales consultant but why not try an outsourced SDR/lead gen service, or talk to a sales bootcamp? There's a lot to be said about devoting all of one's energy to the role - for instance, it's super easy for someone to dread cold calling and avoid it if it's a 2 hr/day thing, but cold calling can be very much normalized into someone's routine if it's a normal part of their day job.

I'd be curious to hear other people's opinions but IMO a part time SDR is probably the worst route to go.

He's definitely trying to figure out how to roll out sales right now, so to answer your question I think it's simply because he hasn't seriously considered FTEs. He's been doing sales himself, as well as the scheduling, servicing, and back-office, etc...

He contracted with this head honcho who's made his career organizing summer sales teams, and their sales teams are now supposed to sell his stuff instead of whatever they were doing before, but it's probably going to take 1-2 more months to shape up and deliver on any sort of consistent basis... but again, that's just sharing his only real approach to doing sales besides picking up the phone and doing calls himself.

Indeed's always been my #1 way of sourcing a high volume of quality candidates in short amounts of time. Monster's good as well, ZipRecruiter is hit or miss. LI is time-consuming, generally longer response times, and expensive if you don't have a premium/recruiter membership.

Obviously, referrals are the best source, however.

If you look at the first comment, my biggest fear is that posting on Indeed/Monster gets the most tire kickers. But then again, if you don't put in the time on LI or don't have enough referrals in the space, what choices do you have?

Thank you for your comment - it's really cool to see responses in >1hr from posting for first time here in Bravado.

Yeah fair enough. You'll definitely see your fair share of fry cooks applying to AE roles and so on and so forth.

Putting together a search string and finding candidates on my own on Indeed is where I have the most success, over job postings. I have a recruiter account - not sure if that's something you can do without?

Welcome to the War Room! Great community to be a part of.

I'm going to go google search "search strings for Indeed " now and tie that to the titles of people we're hunting for. Thank you!

You're welcome! Boolean search strings are the way to go. Best of luck!

Call it a part time consulting role and see who applies. I did something similar to what you described in the past

That's a smart idea. I'll give it a whirl (hope it was worth the time for you).

There is this out-of-the-box approach laid out in the "Sales acceleration formula". It's a very useful read and talks about how great candidates won't apply because they get offers left and right. It has a chapter with templates on doing direct marketing asking for referrals. Something like: "you are a top salesperson, we have too many leads and coffee, winners hang out with each other, who do you know who would be interested?" It should help you fill the candidate pipeline.
