Which offer would you take?

Top of the morning gents.

Got two offers and not sure what's the play. Been in real estate for 4 years and my only previous SaaS experience was 5 months at a startup in cybersec.

Offer 1 - Founding BDR at a startup in data governance. Base 90k OTE 105k. Product is great. Not sure if there's any path to growing here but the base is very enticing.

Offer 2 - (Maybe LATAM) BDR at Snyk for 45k Base 70k OTE. More established progression towards AE. The previous rep for this role is being promoted to an AE and is hitting constantly 160% quota.

First time posting so if you need more details please ask.

How would you leverage the experience to push off to an AE?

Yeah man, listen to the rec here. You can always push for more as you will be creating the program from scratch. Help build out the team and then move to either AE or management.

The only hesitations I’d have with being a “founding” anything is the amount of support (tools, etc) you’ll get, and how much the company executives understand sales. You’re going in with experience, so it’s not as concerning as someone completely new.

Best of luck!

Between these two, I'd go for offer 1. BDRs are "easily" hired anywhere so if a founding position doesn't work out it will at least look better on your resume and you got paid a lot more for it.
I'd still make sure to vet the company and leaders well. You want crystal clear expectations.

So then I would go for #1. Grass may not be greener on #2. Or figure it out before you make a choice.

I couldn't turn down 2x base. PBC is right - push towards that AE role and make some shit happen.

“Established progression” is bs.

It probably is BS but there’s progression history of it. I’m just scared of being a BDR for 1-1.5 years and then reset the clock.

Tbh if you get stuck at an SDR it’s likely a “you problem” and they don’t feel you have what it takes

Hey @TerryTwoTime!! Welcome to the War Room. Great first post.

Just a couple of points, I wanted to mention before I jump onto your question.

This is an anonymous sales platform with some of the best sales people. Their advice is pure gold. The best way to get the most out of this platform is to consistently engage, post, and interact with the users.

This isn't LinkedIn, you can go as detailed as you want in your posts. Just make sure they provide value.

Lastly, have you checked out the commission store yet? If not, I highly recommend. We got some amazing goodies. Earning commissions is also super easy. Upvotes get you commission points.

We keep posting Monday leaderboards, fun Friday, who's hiring, etc.

Now to jump. back to your question:

I'd go for offer 1. Base is good, gain some experience, move on to becoming an AE once you survive for an year or so. Just check that becoming "founding" of anything requires a lot more work, effort, hustle, and back & forth with the management. Check for if the product is sellable or not and all the other metrics basically.

It also depends on where you are in your career and life. If you want something ordinary, settled, convenient then go for offer 2.

Best of luck :) Choose wisely!!

id for sure take option one. you dont have to become an AE at that company but this difference between $45K and $90K base is pretty legit.
