Which solution would you sell?

I do not have offers from either (yet) but I'm preparing myself to have make the decision.
Both companies are enduring these tough econ conditions well: hiring and overachieving on targets so I'm confident in both but
which would you pick?
a) the solution I'm less interested in (industry, product itself, buyer persona) but with a huge upside, TAM, and more of a need to have
b) the solution I'm personally more interested in but less of a need to have

which solution would you sell?

Go with the one you are more passionate about and can see yourself doing for the next couple of years. Plus are they the ranked with comp and the overall connection you have with the HM

Any decision that an organization or person makes to buy is 50/50. There is a rational and emotional impact that your product delivers, even if not obvious.

I spent a decade selling something I had no personal interest in and while I was really damn good at it, my personal satisfaction with my job is so much better selling something that excites me. I make a lower salary (similar OTE) and would rather worry about paying a bill over wanting to drive off a bridge On my way To the office any day.

I am more aligned towards selling something that has great product fit not necessarily of my personal interest because learning new products have never been an issue. I love selling and that’s something I will continue to do !

In a perfect world we’d all sell or do what we were more or most passionate about. But I imagine you all know like I do, we don’t. If you can find some joy/interest in the one that is a better product/market fit I would 100% do that. I’ve always found that even if I wasn’t that crazy about something the money always offset it (unless working 80 hour weeks or something crazy like that) and afforded me the opportunity to do more of the things I am passionate about outside of work.

Greater need to have will be less likely to layoff, and selling a more technically complicated and/or necessary solution will be looked at more favorably by recruiters down the line

You'll be more successful if you genuinely believe in the product you're selling...so find a way to fall in love with the solution with the greater TAM/upside/need and go where the money is.

Emotionally, I'd go for the one you're interested in. However, reality rears its ugly head, and if you can't sell it effectively due to the economy, are you going to be able to hang in there without the possibility that reaching your quota is possible?

i am also dealing with something similar.

1. which pays more?
2. how MUCH less of a need to have is option B?
3. How have you done in situations like this in the past? have you sold products you were not interested in before? how did that go?

PMF is likely more important than passion. If you'll fulfilling a need and solving problems I'm sure you'll still enjoy that product.

Product fit all day every day. Better market fit = I’d typically make more faster = happy JMSwiggidy.

Even if I am passionate about something I’d be miserable if I’m selling to a saturated market or the product is garbage.

Agree, they are separate. Some products that fit the marketing are boring as hell, while some that don’t fit are really cool/align with my values. One doesn’t need the other.

Need and Risk drive purchases. You don't need to care about your product, but you should care about helping your customer.

I have found that every sales job has shitty days / seasons. For me, selling stuff that I am personally more interested in and passionate about has been far more fulfilling. And has ultimately resulted in better income generation also.
