Which state would you choose?

This is niche, but curious to get your thoughts.

I live in Minnesota. New territory being drawn and I have the option to get Minnesota combined with either Wisconsin or Michigan.

I sell cybersecurity to large enterprise.

What would you choose?

Just based on personal knowledge Iโ€™d say Michigan has more opportunity. However Iโ€™m not very familiar with Wisconsin so I could be biased here

I don't know about either one, but are there other reps in MI?

None yet. Current team is 2 people. Me in MN and another guy in Texas. New manager wants to scale to 6 total. Other reps will likely be in Chicago and Ohio.

Lots of great auto manufacturers & distributors AND all the tertiary organizations in MI that will lose hundreds of thousands to MILLIONS for any amount of time the line can't run (like even 15 minutes it's crazy).

You should have lots of good opportunities! Sell on piece of mind, liability insurance in an event, and protecting uptime & product out the door on time.

Feel like Michigan is a significantly larger economic zone.

Probably choose Michigan because the fact that companies such as Ford and others are based out of there and if they are targets for your org then it's a great option.

Iโ€™ve both covered those states and now over see them. I also reside in Minnesota. Take Michigan not even a question. Michigan is a hub for several laaarge industries on top of #of companies, population and revenue.

Just based on what I sell into Midwest (not cyber, but other key software), I get more/bigger customers out of MI than WI. Lots of mfg and cpg.

I covered Michigan this year, tbh thereโ€™s not much going on outside of the Detroit area. In Detroit everyone is very tied to Auto, which isnโ€™t doing great right now.

I wouldnโ€™t totally write off WI - my teammate who covered it did well this year, and as a company weโ€™ve grown quite a bit in WI over the past 2 years.

WI doesnโ€™t get a lot of attention, so if youโ€™re willing to put in a little work, thereโ€™s a pretty decent CPG & Manufacturing presence.

Valid points. We've had good luck selling to big manufacturers which makes automotive interesting.
We already have a few "land" customers in WI, so it'd be nice to take those over and grow them.

Oh boy
Michigan

WI has lots of manufacturing and Ag, but MI has plenty more large business going on. Literally most of NA Automotive companies have their HQ in Detroit so you'd be silly not to jump at that as a territory

hello to a fellow minnesotan ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ
the auto industry alone is enough to choose MI, in my opinion.
