Who's Done This Before? Trailblazing A New Market

I'd love to get advice from anyone who's built a new market before around a product. Like you had this amazing novel product for a long time problem, but the challenge was there were no projects, budgets or road maps with your solution on it.

How did you go about affecting road maps? How long did it take? What was critical, and how did you get the early customers?

Eg Gong and competitors for conversational intelligence (conversationanal intelligence wasn't around 10 yrs ago) or Salesforce before there was SaaS

I'm confused. Are you trying to sell an existing product to a new customer base/vertical? Or, trying to market an entirely new product?

I've taken an existing product into a new market if that's what you're talking about. It's all about messaging, if you see a fit, there's a reason. Use what lead you to believe there would be a fit in the first place and begin playing with the messaging. Shit'll buff out as you have conversations and see how this new market responds to your efforts.

For me I just sold a pre-existing product into a new market. The product fit was there but no one had considered reaching out to the companies (was a legal grey area at the time/cannabis companies). Netted me some solid deals before I moved on from the company.ย

I've only moved into new verticals with existing SaaS solutions, so can only respond if that's what you mean.ย  ย And the motions are similar.ย  The difference for me was uncovering how our solution mapped to any unique use cases that vertical would have.ย  RE: compliance, which may be essential in FSI and Fed/Gov, but isn't an issue with other verticals.ย  ย
