I got into a big disagreement with our head of marketing yesterday because he doesn't understand our ICP which is scary. I left the convo more confident that my team with 10 people under 6 months in role will still outperform anything their team tries to generate 10:1.

It was wild, without going into all the juicy details I was a bit dumbfounded when he goes "x, I 100% disagree with you blah blah blah". Dog there are 2 sales managers and 2 account managers on this call that have all outlined this. Get out of your ivory tower, talk to some customers and then come tell me im wrong.Β

Bad marketing is bad marketing.Β  Β When marketers are clueless and blindly come up with programs that don't help acquire leads, it's irritating.Β  Β

No one on our marketing team understands what we does. When we give feedback on our content, website, etc. from prospect calls, they get defensive and say that it doesn’t align with their β€œmarket research” aka will not change anything. It’s absolutely infuriating working with marketing sometimes. Sorry…. *most of the time*

I think meeting the the right marketing person is the key but I don't have an answer to how.

My marketing guy is quite cool and we agree and disagree on many aspects and always had a happy endingΒ

Marketing is a bunch of nerds who couldn't sell. If they knew what made things sell, then the programs they made wouldn't be shit

I can't even go to marketing for help anymore, if I need a specific piece of content I ask my team and then tweak what I need myself.Β

Because they once said 'I understand what we sell, I'm going to get you so many hot MQL's' and now their ears don't hear anything other than those words.

I think it's the marketer and not the marketing.

Like anything, there are people who are just shit. But not all are/

They come to us and ask how they can help. When we give them ideas, they go work on them but never come back with results. Drives me crazy, and they love me

Typically - marketers think deals are closed on the value of a single tool or product, they don't understand the steps and discovery that it takes to derive value and pain from conversations to actually close a deal, with your product being the solution.Β

This. They view it from a perspective of performance metrics vs being on the front line. It's all about collaboration, if they're open to it.Β
