Why do dipshit sales reps that hit numbers keep going into management?

News flash. Those guys almost NEVER know how to lead. They tend to be the douchiest managers. Why does this keep happening? Good at sales rarely equates to good at leadership.

You know the saying - those who can't do...teach.

I feel like if someone's really good at sales, they usually have no interest in management unless they've been doing sales for a long while and want to try something different. If someone sucks at sales, management is an attractive offer.

Company's that evaluate this way (ie. The highest-performing reps will make the best leaders) fuel this.

It's a completely different personality and skillset to be a leader, and so often, many of them are terrible managers.

The rationale being that they can teach the average reps their magic ways, but in reality, as a manager they just end up getting mad that the reps can't "do what I did" and think "I can do it better".

Common and generalised off late, IMO!

People can't work or show stuff, but good at teach or coach.
