Why does everyone think they can sell?

Why does every other department think they know more about selling the product than the sales team?

More importantly, what’s the best way to tell them to shut the hell up?

it's funny because any time CSMs, project teams, support managers run into issues, who do they bring in to fix it all for some reason?  The sales person who sold the deal.

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
Insert general "fuck marketing" statement here.

This goes one of two ways: 1) They suck and they realize they suck but then they're scared to ever get on the phone ever again including when you actually need them to 2) They suck, think they're great and cost you deals but think it's your fault.

By being Socratic....the best sellers ask the best questions.

Those who think they know it all, will be exposed by those who know how to listen and take advantage of the words others use.

Basically, pain funnel the other departments. You know it all, well prove it.

Doesn't sound like a good org to sell for. If sales isn't king then I don't want it!

Maybe because Sales doesn't require an academic qualification. Paired with some weird notion of "salespeople are sleazy"

This is legit, lol. People like to think sales is easy and anyone can do it. Me personally, I let em talk while I’m taking that sweet commish home.

Everyone thinks they can sell until they actually have to do it. If someone is giving you a hard time, offer for them to sit on a call or drive a less important meeting and see what their feedback is after

It's just a misunderstanding of the actual process. I think the overarching theme is "you're very good with people, you'd be a great salesperson", which is just not true. I've seen countless SE's switch to rep roles because they were "sick of doing all the work" and not close anything in two quarters before going back to being an SE.

Kind way to tell them to shut the hell up? Tell em to please shut the hell up
