Why does taking vacation feel like you're being huge inconvenience to the company?

Everyone has vacation time to use, why is it that when you go or return from it it's like you've intentionally screwed up the team your on or the company itself? And let's not even pretend that your quota would be adjusted for a lengthy time off during a month ๐Ÿ˜‚

Took a 2-week honeymoon; my CEO threatened to fire me on day 6 because he didn't realize how much work my job was (that he was willing to take on while I was out). I turned it around with a "and you wonder why I need 2 weeks". Never gave me shit again.

If anyone threatened to fire me while I was on PTO because they thought that covering my position was too hard, I would be demanding a raise and more equity.ย

Iโ€™ve had 3 kidsโ€ฆ..well my wife did the hard work and I sat there saying motivational movie quotes, but that doesnโ€™t matter. Taking time off for paternity leave, my old bosses made me feel so guilty for not working. I felt so behind when I came back. It was awful. Management and leaders need to do a better job by showing itโ€™s okay or proving itโ€™s okay to take time off. Better yet, make it mandatory for 2 weeks off a year.

WCK already nailed it....I'll support his comment with people like to project their negative emotions on other people and for them a vacation is an easy target for them.

Nothing is more important than your health, mental or physical. If you need time off take it. I hate to tell you(re boss) that the world and company will keep ticking along just fine if youre out for a couple weeks and miss your number.ย

Take your time, enjoy it, and fuck anyone that says otherwise.ย

Totally depends on company culture. I've seen companies talking about mandatory PTO. The highest I saw was 25 days a year. Company I worked for a while back was awesome. Unlimited PTO and the CEO and COO made it clear to everyone on the team that if someone was taking PTO nobody was allowed to contact them about work.

That's how it should be everywhere! I hope over the next few years more companies sign on to this more and more

Never feel bad about it. Take the time.ย

If companies wanted to be helpful they'd add quota relief during holidays. So ehh idgaf.ย

Take your vacation, enjoy it. I can assure you the world will continue to turn in your absence. To be candid, too often we over value our contribution to our company (its a pretty common mental "block").ย  As mentioned below, the company was fine and will be fine so enjoy your trip.ย ย

The tough part sometimes is presenting sound logic to individuals who do not like to follow sound logic.ย
Irrational processes and expectations are way too common.

Matters on the culture. I have to beg for PTO and everytime I submit a request my boss needs a meeting to scrape off an hour here, and hour there. Literally is so toxic when your boss is asking you to work extra or take a day less.ย

If you have earned the vacation time then you should use it rather than lose it, as long as you check with your team or manager before then do not feel sorry!

I was told it wasnโ€™t recommended to take off the last week of the quarter/month, however stopped giving a shit once upper management did the same thing!

This is a company by company thing. My prior company was like this. It was like we were personally inconveniencing leadership by taking days off. It was terrible culture all around. The organization I am at now is far more encouraging about work/life balance and taking time off for yourself and family.

That is simply poor leadership... find somewhere else to invest your time and energy.

Has anyone taken any sales training from the Sandler Sales System? My company is putting me through their program right now, and it seems like they say the same thing over and over again...?
