Why sales?

I've been in this game a lot longer than I'd like to believe.

Money was the obvious motivation that everyone points at.

Solving people's problems falls somewhere between 2nd and 5th.

What led you to believe a sales gig was for you?

Did it live up to expectations?

A lawyer makes money by being "right".ย

If you expect to win as a sales person just by being "right" you are setting yourself up for a life of heartache.

You are in the right place.

A lawyer makes money by positioning the value of their client as a member of society.

We do the same thing in sales, position the value of our product and a partnership with our company.

I would hope that we believe our product is the "right" fit in most cases, if not what the hell are we doing.

Agreed on the believing our solution is right or we should be in the mix.

The lawyer part is debatable. :)

Where else can you own your own success with such little training.

The training piece is an interesting take.

Some companies I've worked for gave sales people a phone and said "good luck"

Others have invested significantly in skill development.

Youโ€™re being sold to every day, whether you like it or not.

Mastering the game is the easiest way to fight back.

Also, bundled up stacks blowing in the wind balances your chi.

Some of the best sales people I know are a version of "lazy" that requires a laser focus.

It's the kind of lazy that a Lion exhibits right up until the point it decides what prey it is going to chase. Then it gets very "un-lazy"

Sales did not live up to my expectations and for the better. Always thought I would despise cold calling, but the rush a meeting scheduled brings has made me like doing it much more than I ever anticipated I would!

I like education a lot. Part of me wants to make enough moolah to leave sales all together and go back for my education certificate/degree. A mentor of mine says, "You sell your product everyday of the week. You know more about this than anyone else in the world...your client however may only purchase this one or two times in their life. You need to educate, not sell!"ย

TL;DR - Solving people's problems, but teaching them how we can help is specifically what I like.ย

For sure we sell our product more times than our prospects have bought it.

Love approaching it as education, but with a shared goal of financial gain.
