Why your S/BDR job feels like it's crushing your soul.

You care too much about the end game and have stopped paying attention to the day-to-day wins that will bring you the small joys that will keep you motivated.

Go ahead and manifest that VP of Sales role or that unicorn startup that you'll be the co-founder of...but don't lose sight of the fact that you have a job to do today that will inch you closer to your manifest destiny.

You can whine, you can bitch, you can drink, and you can snort to ease the pain...but all of those things are only masking the fact that you chose a profession that is soul-crushing at times. However, the upside ($$$) to what we do is what makes it possible for us to eat avocado toast at 25, buy houses at 35, and even a Porsche at 40. But...you'll get none of that if all you do is whine about the temporary discomfort of cold calls, ghosted meetings, and shitty AEs that treat you like dirt.

So, here's the caffeinated truth: Stop complaining about minor bullshit, celebrate the daily wins, and take solace in the fact that we have all gone through the muddy trench that you're living in now.

Smile and dial. If you’re not learning how to make the next move in your career, thats on you.

If you can’t make it through step-one of your sales career, youre going to be a below average AE.

Its all par for the course. Have a short memory - realize that each day you put in is bringing you closer to being promoted.

Hate to break it to you, but sales badgers prospect no matter what the role. Its the key to high 6 figure checks

But @poweredbycaffeine MY story is DIFFERENT! Im the only SDR that has a mean AE and Im the only BDR who has been hung up on and Ive been given a trophy for tying my shoes since I was 4 so I dont know anything other than complaning about bullshit and with my 6 months of SDR experience at 4 different companies I KNOW I can run a 500 person sales org.

Here's my tip: get some velcro shoes, or crocs, and find your way to a marketing desk.

Being an SDR is a very hard, very mentally challenging job. But so are all sales jobs. If you want to complain about how grindy it is, or how much all the no's suck, or how much all the outbound is monotonous, well, that's just sales. Suck it up buttercup. If you hate it that much, you aren't going to enjoy an AE role either.

Being an SDR also pays INCREDIBLY WELL considering what the job is and that its an entry level position. Tell me what job/industry its possible to make 80k+ per year as an entry level employee in without a college degree. I bet you can't.

This post is pretty timely for me, and I can tell you all with a fair amount of confidence that you can replace (SDR/BDR) with any position in sales and the statements made above are the absolute SAME.   I've had a pretty soul crushing week, and the one certainty that I keep coming back too is that "that's part of the gig, and its my responsibility to the people that count on me to push past it, and ensure I am doing everything I can to make sure my team is in the best spot to crush their goals.

I became an SDR to learn cold calling, so I expected this kind of grind. 30 days in still no SQL but here's to Q4 and learning the shit out of everything to prep for Q1 2022.

Sellers regularly have the opportunity to make more money than brain surgeons. Just think of that shit for a moment. It drives me bat shit crazy when sellers complain and whine about how tough they have it. A career in dominating selling isn’t for the meek, it’s not for the weak minded. The hard….is what makes it great!
