Will significantly miss FY target. Due to circumstances known at company. Is this the end of my Enterprise AE career?

I'm covering a notoriously hard patch in the Enterprise segment for a F200 SaaS player.

Because of circumstances, that my management also confirms, I am having a tough time. I don't like excuses myself though, so I don't have the tendency to talk about them.

Every recruiter I talk to is asking about all my past achievement, which has been quite good (regular overachievements). If I have to talk about this FY being so low, will they cut me out as a candidate?

What would you advise on me doing?

Everyone makes missteps - a single miss isn't going to tank anything.

If you're looking for something new, you will have to understand how to spin it properly though.

It's all in how you spin it. Focus on your achievements.

I would hope that if your past is really strong, one bad year will not make a major impact.

And if a company isnt willing to over look that,....then you for sure do not want to work there.

Right now you can successfully blame C19 for everything.  So work that for '22 results.

Sales people's careers are cyclical.  You'll have good & bad years.  Just the way it is, usually.

Regarding recruiters+results - I'd never advocate straight out lying, but you can always be creative with the numbers.

Own it and directly bring it up before they have a chance to question you. This would go a long way imo.

I had a horrible year directly before I landed my dream job.  So...it's not just one year that defines your skill set and capabilities.

1. Either look for needy organisations that don't give many ducks on your performance
2. OR, have a more than good quarter in JAS and use it as bait

If sales people didn’t have quotas, and were paid just a flat rate of whatever they sold, do you think think that A)Salespeople would work just as hard? B) Create a better culture within the Sales Org? C) Create better relationships with their buyers?

If you join a SaaS company and thrive at the beginning due to inbound leads and good SDR and then sales start going down due to a change of SDR and less inbounds, does that mean you’re not a competent sales person or does it mean it’s time to move on to another company?
