Will US tariffs affect your sales?

This is not intended to be a political post or get any political comments! It is just the stage we find ourselves in economically, especially if you work cross borders. We will see how long or short it lasts.

My question is..

Do you see this affecting your sales in your industry over the coming days/weeks/months?

only if you what you sell comes from China, Mexico, or Canada... for the moment (or you sell to those countries from the US).

Software (as a service) is not considered a good, but a service these days, so exempt from the tariffs. At least in Canada.

In SaaS, the impact will generally be felt depending on your target market's industry.

Itโ€™s not about whether the things you sell are impacted by tariffs. Fear caused by uncertainty will drive the markets and your success (or lack of) for the next few quarters.

For those of us slinging software this will manifest itself in delayed decisions. CFOs are being ultra cautious with spend and looking to avoid getting into contracts (especially multi-year).

Want to get around this? Your solution cannot be a nice to have. Find a way to align what you sell to a top 2 company priority. How can what you offer act as a catalyst to success.

If you canโ€™t do that?
Buckle up.
The ride is going to be rough for a while.

Do you leverage goods or services produced in any of the affected countries? If so, probably yes.

We have Canadian employees. Not sure how that will affect their pay. Do they get 25% more?

It will affect our GP number more than total sales. In the office equipment space, HP already announced a 20% price increase, so it is only a matter of time before the other manufacturers follow suit. The problem is that most customers are not going to let you pass on a 20% increase to them. It will make for an interesting few months.

Yep big time, forcing positive change in the company though and meaning we are moving US operations to US which we should have done years ago, will increase our own margins.
