The War Room

With LinkedIn being a thing, should we still really have to generate a resumΓ© to find a new job???

Been thinking about this lately and its MUCH easier to lie on a resume and verify that information than it is for someone to lie and fraudulently curate their LinkedIn page (though I'm sure there are people out there doing it). Just doesn't make sense that we have to carefully craft a new resume every time we are looking for new opportunities.

Should Resume's still be the standard?

Using stone tablets will definitely push recruiters to ditch the resume and rely on LI lol.Β

The resume needs to be tailored to the job you're applying for. If you have a very straight forward career path, maybe that is fine. But for the interesting people that you actually want to hire, you want to see focus on things they did that apply to the job, and mention of the other crazy side projects they did (we used to call those value add skills)

Prizrak, that makes sense depending on the person and industry. In my experience in sales, everything that a company is really interested in is coming out of the persons mouth and the resume functions as a "does this person know how to make a resume" test. They want to know that you have worked in sales previously, but what they really want is to know that you are ambitious and coachable, which I don't think a resume can really highlight.Β

That is a good point too. I recently had to apply for jobs the old fashioned way (I haven't done this in years) and I was shocked by the amount of stupidity I had to go through to get an interview. I'd like to see that changed, but at the same time I found I was only applying at the jobs that I really wanted. So maybe it did work.

Your resume is a personal one-pager (ish). If you can't sell yourself how can you sell their product?

.... yeah I was alluding to the fact that the process of a one page resume being my "foot in the door" is a very antiquated process that needs to be refreshed.Β
