Work phone as personal phone?

Not exactly a sales-related question, but I would still love to see your opinion on this matter.

Starting a new role next week and procurement/IT just emailed me asking to choose my new iPhone and if I want to transfer my existing phone number (my personal phone number) to their new phone.

I'm not exactly a big fan of having to carry two phones, I can barely keep up to date with all the notifications on my personal phone. At the same time, there's a part of me who doesn't want to mix personal and business in one device.

What's your thoughts on this?

One phone, two sim cards. Best of both worlds.

Hardest part is finding a good dual sim phone. PIxel and iPhone are the top choices, and if you can get your personal one as an eSim just keep the employer nano sim.

Who has the pockets for 2 phones?! I just use my personal for both. Be careful you don't drunk dial anyone though...

I wish iPhone had profiles you could set up and switch between easily, keep those contacts separate.

My concern is that they are providing the device, which means it will be a work device, not my personal one that I could simply expense my phone bill every month.

Different profiles would definitely be a big plus

I could see that being a point of concern, but I think it depends on how your company approaches this. Is it yours to keep? Does IT actually send you a phone (versus receiving a sealed box, who knows what they've installed)?

I was able to pick my laptop, my company paid for it to me and arranged shipment from the retailer directly to me and it arrived sealed. I did all the set up and get to keep it.

If you're at all like my situation then you're golden. If not, then you need to think a little..

Also, will you need physically carry that second phone? If you're at a desk most of the time it's less of an issue.

I use my personal, but I keep it very organized to not mix it up.

This is what I was hoping for, but they seem really rigid about us using the work phone provided. I would have much preferred using their sim card in my phone and calling it a day

Just get a new phone number for the work phone they send you and keep your personal. Try it out.

I'm the same, this is why I'm actually considering it. I can barely respond to my friends in a timely manner with one phone, imagine if I have two

I have two phones and would never go back honestly. I can turn my work phone off/airplane mode after hours to not get the stress of the slack ping at 7pm asking for a deal update that can absolutely wait till the morning, I also find it's great for keeping email separate since my gmail is over run with things - it's nice to just have everything work on one device, and everything personal on another. Sure carrying two phones can seem annoying at the start but i typically just throw my work phone in my backpack during commute / at happy hour etc.

110% agree with what you are saying. Go even further and turn off all work phone notifications that don't relate to customer interactions. Only calls and texts ping during work hours, everything else you need to open up to check. I find it keeps me in the zone if I can't be distracted by internal shizzzz

Once you share a phone, that phone can be used in trial in case something happens. Just protect yourself. Also, you never have the risk of sending something personal to a work person.

I can never carry 2 phones, if given an option I would rather take the sim and shove it in my dual sim phone

I'm in the minority, apparently, with two phones. I've had my personal number for decades now, and don't want my work phone on that line. I've now had the same number for work for about 10 years too - transferred it when I changed jobs.

It works out, as I'm not a guy, I carry a bag. It's no issue to have two phones.

The creepy thing is that since they are both iPhones, they talk to each other anyway.

Used to have to carry 2 phones and I absolutely hated it. 1 phone and 1 phone only.

One phone. Personal number for personal use only. I use the Zoom app to call, text, and set up meetings. It includes a different number.

Two phones. Keeping everything separate.

You can turn off your phone on leave and not get people crossing lines asking you to work.

Also if there is ever any legal issue at the company, your work phoneโ€™s contents and history may be discoverable, your personal wonโ€™t be
