Worked at a lot of kitchens, did some sales, career advice needed

I spent about 7 years in the food industry. Even worked at a place where I got paid under counter.

Tried to do sales: 2 months selling blenders and 2 months solar D2D. Both attempts failed. I need to replace the current line cook position with something that pays at least 70K+ along with commission. Tired of getting reamed out by a crazy ass drunk chef.

Have been job searching and have already gotten some offers albeit not good offers. Some places are selling bad products and services. I really want to get into a place like Hubspot or Klaviyo. I'm not a natural salesman, kind of quiet but believe I can do the work.

I spent about 15 almost 16 years in the food industry. I just got aggressive with applying to BDR and SDR positions to get my foot into the sales arena. It may suck at first and you probably won't get the $70k you are looking for right off the bat at least not in base.

you have the Jobs tab here and go hard with the academy and invest into the Sales Tech U.

to give you a journey... food industry for 15-16 years. BDR for 3.5 years (length by choice as I didn't want to move to AE for a copier company)
The last year I have been in an AE role for a Saas and I am interviewing for a Strategic position within the company this next week.

It can happen faster, I was just slow with taking a risk.

^^ right here for industry experience.

Too bad the Jobs and Academy weren't available to you a few years ago!

I filled out a profile and checked out the jobs tab. I don't see any jobs there?

I am also hitting up people on LinkedIn for work. I'm thankfully not desperate for money, but I'm not getting any younger. Won't stop until I'm done with the culinary nonsense.

@antiASKHOLEnails it. I used to work in the beverage space as a bartender, so was always adjacent to the kitchen. It's a crazy, fast paced life. Sales is a really natural transition, imo. Like anti said, you're probably not going to get that 70k base starting. It took me a few years in the industry to get there.

Fill out a profile on the jobs tab and see who you match up with.

Apply for SDR/BDR jobs. But full transparency it's going to be tough to get a 70k base with no skills or experience...

Have applied to about 20 in the past few weeks. Have also tried in the past to do it. I'm not getting younger, getting tired of this culinary stuff.

Leverage the academy section that might be helpful while applying for these tech companies as you donโ€™t come from
that background

I want more money, also sales has crossover skills like business and dating.

Love the ambition, but the comp goal is quite lofty based on your experience.

Also, just to be frank and hopefully helpful, getting into a big name like HubSpot with 0 experience is going to be VERY tough.

BUT we're all here to help.

Why do you think your previous sales attempts failed? Are you going to keep them on your resume?

First of all, I love the show kitchen nightmares, so great name.
Definitely leverage the Sales U and Academy sections in here. You might also consider using a recruiter who specializes in SaaS if you really want to break in.

Just look up recruiters on LinkedIn for that? I tried about a month ago, the recruiter never got back to me. Kind of pissed me off but will try again.

ok first off, those two sales jobs you took are NOT EVEN CLOSE to what i would consider "real sales jobs".

I think you should be looking for SDR roles but getting a $70k base with no sales background will be almost impossible. at least in software.

Hey if I can even get a 40K base I would be happy, just want to reach as high as possible. The vitamix one was a doozy, the sales manager was like a pimp

Yes, getting reamed by a crazy drunk sales manager is much better ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

You need to network with the companies you want to join. You donโ€™t get a job by sending in a resume through a website. Find someone whoโ€™ll champion you for the job you want.

Not a natural salesman...want to break into B2B/SaaS sales making $70K out of the gate...lured by the crossover skills of "business and dating". Is this post for real?
