Working 2 AE jobs AT once…

I understand this is unethical but I'm gearing up to work 2 Account Executive jobs at once. Both jobs are remote. The new job I'll be acquiring is actually a company I've already worked for so my ramp time should seriously be about a week or 2 at most. Does anyone here have experience running 2 sales jobs at once. I'm just trying to make ALL the money in the world. I plan on hitting prospecting metrics and keeping everything organized best i can, my intentions are not to screw over any company. with that said, I'm not really interested in comments about the morality of working 2 jobs but I would like any advice or problems you foresee. I'm mostly concerned about what to do with my LinkedIn profile. Thoughts?

I foresee multiple problems:
- Conflicting meetings, whether from prospects or your own tean
- Background checks, what if they run a background check and they see you are employed somewhere else at the same time
- You are probably breaking both agreements
- How will you keep it a secret? Coworkers tagging you on LI posts, welcome messages, comments, etc.
- What you just mentioned, how are you gonna list your experience on LI? Only safe way would be to delete your account but I'm assuming you need it to connect with prospects

If you manage to do it, please let us know. But this sounds like a time bomb waiting to explode as you will inevitably get caught.

I know you're not interested in the morality of working 2 AE jobs but that's unavoidable when the legal ramifications come into play here.

What would the ramifications be? I definitely need to be more informed on this before I do something stupid.

I’m not a lawyer and I don’t know the specifics. What I do know is that if you’re in a state where you’re an at-will employee, they don’t have to give you a reason to fire you. Which when they find out, they probably will do that, and if they’re lucky to give you a reason, it will probably be an moral/ethical one.

Gotcha. Yes, I assume that I would be fired if any or both orgs found out. I’d just jump to the next sales role in that case and pretend the 2nd job never . Really just want to do this for like 4 months.

As Ron Swanson once said: Don’t half-ass two things, whole-ass one thing.

If you want to make more money then go out and get a job paying you what you want. You’re going to work yourself into an early grave either way, best to do it while serving one master.

Also, good fucking luck when you violate standard employment agreements of not holding any secondary position that poses competing interests of time and knowledge.

This is gonna end poorly, unless you are working outside of tech. Tech Sales is a social, communal profession. Everyone on LNKD looking people up.

This was a questionI had too. Like 401k too. You can’t put more than what 16k a year. You could easily do that by accident. Can you fund two at once?

I suppose you just don't participate in one. If OPs spouse provides health insurance you can decline coverage. Same with 401k. No one forces you to enroll or participate.

There is nothing illegal about working 2 AE jobs at once, unless you sign some sort of agreement and they are both in the same industry.

Whether its unethical?  Hard to say.  In theory they both hired you to put in 40 hrs/week and expect you working for them during prime selling hours.

Ethics aside, time management is key.  You will fail at both within just a few months if you can't put in the time required.  And often, I need every day to be able to be successful at my one job.

Also, I know from personal experience that its very hard to serve 2 masters at once.

I agree that after a few months this would implode but I honestly think I could squeeze out a quarters worth of salary and revenue. At that point I would know which job to keep while making a pretty penny.

**IF** you got that route, make sure you know pretty quick the one you want to keep vs the one you dont want.  If you try to split your time 50/50, you could lose both on the same day

I knew a guy who did this and it worked about a year.

Let us know how it goes could be prosperous. Seriously doubt they would legally go after you unless your working for competition. Probably just fire you if they find out.

This just seems like a bad idea all around.  It's not like a second job where you work some weekend or evening hours at something completely different.  You're going to try to manage two jobs that need to be done during the same hours.   The time constraints alone are going to be a massive challenge.   What about mandatory meetings that conflict?   Managing communication on (I assume) two laptops so IT at one or both companies don't detect something odd.

Both companies probably also have a handbook that explicitly states you cannot maintain an additional job that conflicts with the time they expect you to be working on their behalf, which means you'll immediately be in violation of an explicit company policy from the jump.  Hiding that for months sounds very stressful and not worth it, no matter how much $$ is involved.

If they are both 1099 positions I guess this would be a bit more feasible. Certainly likely violating the legal contracts you would sign to become a salaried employee with benefits, etc.

Man... if you can make it work, that's awesome. I wouldn't give a shit about the "ethical" sides of it. At the end of the day when the chips are down nobody in business is focused on what is ethical, just what will help them survive.

I'm curious how you are going to make it work with LinkedIn and shuffling internal meetings. But lets be honest, it's not an impossible task to take on. Personally, I feel like I would burn out after about 3 months but still that's 3 months of a second salary plus any deals you may have closed.

Looking forward to follow up threads on this!

This only works if one of your jobs doesn't require you being on LinkedIn. So you could have a B2B sales job, and then a more B2C sales job. But if they're both in the same circles you're fucked.

Overemplyed is a real thing on reddit. I'd check it out. I have no advice, other than asking that subreddit for advice. One sales job is hard enough, but if you can manage 2, go for it.

Fuck that, why work 2 AE jobs cause you have to learn 2 sets of customers, different linkedin titles, 2 value props. seems like more of a pain in the ass.

what you could do is probably be a freelance BDR and set appointments with inbound leads. That would be chill and not super responsible.

Hmmm..Let's pretend you get fired from both jobs. When you try to move on to the next job, and they do a background check to see you double-dipped, your odds of getting hired again at a "good" company drop significantly. Not a risk I would take, or put onto my family. A personal side hustle might be better, just my 2 cents.

Ah, bold you are. I am going to be adding a 1099 gig on top of my new SDR role (Start at the end of May) but bc I'm in CST and work both coasts I plan to rotate times as the 1099 focuses on TX. But good luck to u.

I recently was approached by a competitor and was offered a role that would pay me 2.5x of what I was making. I found out though that my existing company was going through a liquidity event that would be very lucrative for me. I negotiated with my company to increase base and variable compensation and offered the other company my services as a consultant. They did not go for it.

You'll probably be better starting a sidegig/sidebiz.

Do you have a friend/relative that has a biz where he sells B2B?

Offer to sell for him commission only. He will get happy whatever results you get, it doesn't matter if you work 10 or 20 hrs.
