Working From Home/Internet Issues @ Office

I never had the privileges to work from home during the pandemic. We were always in office which sucked. With that being said, I never really understood the ease of working from home and the benefits besides what I have heard from my friends who were lucky enough to be able to work from home and still can work from home.

So today, we were having really bad internet issues at the office, so I decided to go home to go home and work with my fire Wi-Fi. I feel guilty even though I am working? Has anyone experienced this before?

This has me thinking, why there isn't an option for us (employees at my company) to do a hybrid WFH schedule? Have any of you had these situations? I may be late to the party here, but this saves so much time and money. How do I have the conversation with my boss that I would like a hybrid schedule without sounding like a total dick?

Today would be a good example. Tell them what you just told us, hey the internet was acting weird, went home to work, would it be too crazy to WFH when these kinds of issues present themselves?ย  ย  ย  ย  ย

For sure. My owners are pretty old school however, so I'm not sure how that would go over. I decided to go home today because they are all on vacation so nobody could really tell me otherwise.

I guess I could approach it that way, but I was referring to a true hybrid schedule, especially during the summer months...ย

I would start slow, with cases like this, then take bigger steps.ย

"Hey now that I've been WFH for a while I've noticed my productivity is usually higher when I'm home. Would it be to crazy to get aย  hybrid schedule?"

When I first started WFH I felt a bit guilty about it too and I didn't even know why!

I don't thinking asking about a hybrid schedule would make you sound like a dick.

It's so strange... Like I am working, doing all the things I am supposed to, yet I am feeling like I'm doing something wrong. Maybe because I have the War Room Tab open. Lolย

The more you do it the more normal it will feel! Just make sure to be productive so you can make a case for yourself

You should never feel guilty being good/productive at your job.

Take this situation with your hybrid model solution to your boss. State the facts clearly and make your case. We've come too far for companies not roll with change because they need some sort of weird control. We deserve better.

Not at all! First off, any company who isn't allowing employees to adopt a hybrid WFH model is absolutely behind and their recruiting will suffer. It's no longer a 'perk', it's expected. Depending on your relationship with your manager, you might be able to tell them that you're willing to be the guinea pig and help develop the rules. Does it mean a 8am connect? 5pm? Availability on teams all day? Calendar blocking?ย

I'd expect to be micro-managed on WFH days at first, let them build up some trust then start asking for leniency.ย ย

Agree with all of the below...

The fact that you are feeling guilt, shows that this is more of a deep ingrained issue with culture. Making an employee feel guilty for finding the best way to be productive? Mind blowing...

Hey you were productive and you were not in the office. Use it as an example.ย
