Working on weekends?

Last week I asked about working on vacations. That is a valid discussion for sales professionals for sure. today I saw on a different platform a "viral discussion about working on the weekends."

At first I thought, 'Nah that's not really even up for discussion.' In my job I don't really consider them weekends as much as days I don't have a ton of work to do. Hell I have weekdays like that sometimes. 8)

Now I'm curious about the opinions and stories from our esteemed colleagues here on Bravado.

I'm sure there will be people who don't read the post and immediately scoff at this question. That's fine. Let's just see what happens.

Working weekends?

Nope. If I can't get my work done during the work week that's a time management issue on my part.

Couldn’t agree more. Work hard, focus on work and don’t do more than 40-45 hours a week. After that it’s your time to take care of yourself, your family and pursue your passions.

What do you say to the people who find themselves with work leftover on the weekend? Organizing issue or overworked? Maybe both?

It depends honestly. Maybe it’s an overbearing employer, maybe it is improper time management. Hard to imagine people with work left over are entirely focused on work alone (I’m guilty of this too).

I don't make it a point to work on the weekend, but if I've got an important deal in the works with a tight timeline or something, I'll do what I need to do to keep it going.  But I definitely prioritize what's legitimately urgent and what can wait till monday.

Sometimes on a Sunday night I *may* check a few emails if I'm feeling high anxiety. Recently I've been practicing hiding my notebooks, laptop, etc and turning my work cell on silent Friday night through Sunday night.

Yes whatever it takes to treat the anxiety. For me by Sunday night that means being completely checked out. Whatever it takes to get that done.

Our team has to fun forecast on the weekends. And by the time you do that, you might as well get through any customer emails. So I usually put in a couple hours Saturday morning but nothing too crazy.

The expectation should be that weekend work is never required, and requests aren't required to be responded to either. However, there are certain occasions where a few things can be taken care of over the weekend if someone elects to do so, and that shouldn't be discouraged if it helps that person be more productive.

Hell, not only do I not agree with working weekends, I advocate for the 4 day work week.

If it can be done in 4 days why spread it across 5?

Never been a fan of "busy work" or bragging about how hard of a worker I am because of the hours I put in.

Some of the laziest people I know put in "extra hours" regularly while some of the hardest workers I know bust their asses to get shit done and then recharge to do it again

Depending on what you consider work, absolutely. I do a lot of work-adjacent stuff over the weekend. Reading sales books. Networking on LinkedIn. Participating in communities like this one. That's all stuff that I wouldn't do were I not in sales so I consider it work.
