Working Out From Home

What do you do when you work remote to stay in shape? i gained 40 pounds during the pandemic and was in GREAT shape before. I'm thinking about getting a Peloton because it's only $89 a month to rent it. I've been doing core workouts at home but need to shed all this fat!

Consistency is key in any type of exercise, so do what you'll keep doing.

Also don't focus solely on one type - core work alone isn't going to move the needle much. You need a mix of aerobic and strength training to lose fat and maintain/build muscle.

Adjustable dumbbells are great but expensive. Otherwise get some bands with a door anchor.

And diet, of course

Everyone says it but the main thing is your routine and doing workouts you actually enjoy. If you hate biking Peloton might not be the best, but if you love it and especially once it gets cold out it will be great.

Also don’t forget about diet, look at how you have been eating or drinking.

this is for sure the best answer. #1 is diet and then you gotta actuallY LIKE the work out.

Stationary bike was my primary thing at the gym but now that I’m WFH, the gym is like a 20 minute walk away and I’m not trying to spend an extra hour a day just going to and from the workout. I’ve been eating better ish but definitely drinking too much

Drinking is one of those things if you are able to limit the amount, weight will come off pretty quick (In my experience). Even if you just switch to vodka waters or a "healthier" drink it really does help

I have a peloton and love it. It’s worth it, in my opinion. Also I live in the Chicago area so like working out outside is a 3 week a year thing so this thing has me covered.

Weight loss happens in the kitchen, not the gym :)

It’s definitely both. I have been very thin and very fat and never did either with just one. Well actually at one point I ate terribly but worked out constantly so it was fine

Supplements and activity only get you so far. Remove a large portion of starches(breads, noodles, potatoes) from your diet and reduce the amount of sugar intake you have.

If you already enjoyed the stationery bike at the gym, then a Peloton sounds like it might be a good fit for you.

Other than that, just make sure you get up and moving during the work day. It's amazing how much just being sedentary is detrimental.

Just make sure you get up and move. You sit longer than you realize.

You also have to pay the $40ish a month for the app and program, right? I think you can just get some weights and do a couple of 15 min workouts a day to have the same/better results.

Also, diet is a huge factor.

I always tell my friends that want to lose weight to simply cut or reduce sugar and processed foods if they dont have time to follow a specific diet.

Cutting those two reduces your cravings drastically and you will find yourself enjoying whole foods way more!

The firs 3-5 days are tough so I recommend throwing or giving away all the unhealthy stuff you may have at home. (:

I would agree, cutting added sugar is a little extra boost in the way to lose weight.

Yeah I mean it’s both. Eat healthy and exercise. You can get in shape doing just one but it’s easier to do a combination of both. Like I’ll never quit have wine so I just have to work out harder

I think it's not only the fact of working out, but being also able to balance other factors in your life (food, sleep, etc). Working from home can easily make your habits unhealthy imo. I'm also struggling to get in shape tbh lol

Lift weights. Get more protein. Intermittent fast. Works wonders!

Outdoor walks to hit some step goals. Sounds boring and like it wouldn't do much, but it's honestly a great addition to weights + diet. And it gets your outside breathing (somewhat) fresh air!
