Working with Someone You CANT STAND?

We all have them, whether it’s a boss, a colleague or someone on your team, that person who’s personality makes your blood boil, but your forced to work with every day.

It could be the...

Always asks a question on sales call person (usually about something specific to their book, job)

The “Teachers pet” who seems to have the new process changes in place before they are rolled up, but consistently sits below 80% to target.

The shitty product person who you need to be on point, but thinks they are a seller and consistently botches calls.

The first time manager, who seems to be dropping sales and leadership book tactics and strategy almost right off the page, but doesn’t have an original thought.

Who is your work kryptonite, snd what tips and tricks do you have for fighting the good reforge?

My work kryptonite doesn't work with us any longer. He is now the CRO of a pretty well known company but how he got the job is beyond me. This man's data integrity was disgusting. Takes up at least 4 hours a week cleaning up my CRM from what he and "his team" did over 4 years ago. It's just disgraceful and it bogs me down. I'm talking about 5 duplicates per account, and then don't even get me started on the contacts. I would have been embarrassed to handle my data the way this guy did. Even though he hasn't worked at the company in 2 years, I feel like he's breathing down my neck every day.

TONS of failing upward in this business.  More fuckjobs in VP or C level spots for being right place right time and rubbing elbows with their cronies

One of the guys I work with is good at his job - the issue with it is that he never shuts up about it. Confidence is one thing, but ego is another. Nobody wants to hear you brag that you're the team's Tom Brady or constantly hear about how much money you make. He needs a slice of humble pie.

Also he's one of those guys who always has an opinion, no matter the topic. Could he politics, sports, clothes, food - doesn't matter, he knows best! Doesn't help that he has a really loud and annoying voice.

I just do my best to tune him out. He's not a bad person and what he does doesn't affect my money or work, so whatever. Thankfully we do a lot of team meetings virtually right now so I don't have to hold back on rolling my eyes when he talks.

I work with this one individual that this is their first sales job.... But somehow they have all of the knowledge as to how to operate and be successful in sales.

Like.. slow down Sally, you need experience in order to speak about experience haha.

Have to figure that out early...
My first job out of college, the interview went like this:

interviewer:  salesninja, are you an asshole?
salesninja:  no sir
Interviewer:  that’s good. I’ve worked with several assholes in my life and don’t want to work with another.  Salesninja, you’re hired

Always find out if there assholes in the organization early in the interview process

I hate people who lie. I don't care if you're an asshole, just don't fucking lie about it to me. People who lie also gossip a lot. It just murders morale for everyone.

I stay as far away from them as much as I can, and find as many reasons as possible to never be forced into their orbit. If it cannot be avoided, I will find their weak spot and make them like me (again, don't want to be on the receiving end of their toxicity) or I'll be straight up direct and let them know what I'm about and to step off or I'll call their ass out in front of literally everyone. I have no fear or shame so I don't care.

I call this "fake transparency" - where someone talks about being transparent and having this "awesome culture" - but its just smoke and mirror bullshit.

I had a strategy guy added to a project of mine by our CRO as apparently I needed help liaising with external stakeholders (after 7 years in sales...).

He had zero sales experience and it got mildly hostile the more he tried to assert himself above me.

He was completely useless and the external team realised that immediately and only wanted to deal with me. He eventually faded out of the project completely after realising he added no value.

My advice, know your worth and just get the job done, people usually realise they're useless on their own if you just keep kicking goals.

"the participator" is mine - the one who, with 5 minutes remaining in the meeting, reiterates a point made by management in a "just to clarify" sort of way. The participator knows what they are saying is in fact exactly what was said, yet wants to come off as intelligent. As soon as the participator speaks up there's a wave of eye rolls and shit talking via slack.

the participator is also known to ask questions in a longer, wordy form and makes unnecessary comments "the reason I think this will be a great initiative is ____" when nobody asked them for their opinion.

I don't have anyone I don't like. I mean I'm certain there is one but I can't pinpoint it right now. I just hate a**holes in general. And I try just to do my work to minimize interactions with them so meh.

Oh you brought this one up. I had to work with this marketing lead who in his head thought he led even the sales team (just me).

At one point, he would tell me how he’d do things if he were me, and started talking about how he used to take care of marketing, do demos and close leads. No one asked for it.

I have proof to show he asked for my calendly (the same link) atleast 6 times in a span of 3 weeks while he was testing out some bots on the website. I mean, it’s on slack bruh, you have the time to type out the message asking me to send it. You def can scroll up a couple secs and find the damn thing yourself.

I generally like the people I work with, but there's one guy who sounds so salesy on the phone. Drives me crazy.

My work Kryptonite was someone on my team and that made it doubly difficult over time as I need to support and help the people on my team and they weren't interested at all.

This person was constantly late and argued that we should have flexible start times so it didn't matter. They did no work and blamed everyone/everything else.

The worst thing was that they were promoted onto my team, just as I started, as their previous manager wanted rid of them and it just came back to bite the company on the arse.

I used to work with a dude that would comment on my appearance: Haircut, weight, clothes... No one cared because he was noshing off the M.D, so there was nothing that could be done. I left the company and joined 2 shitty firms before I settled where I am and succeeding again. Ideally I would eat the BS and bullying but on this occasion, for my mental health, I had to leave.

My work kryptonite is a new sales leader that has never worked a single sales job in their life. Rather than write all of things out, I'll let you imagine how well that is going....

That's ROUGH.  I don't know how executive leadership can make the call to put folks in positions like this to FAIL.

The lazy people are the worst. Uneducated? I can teach you. Unmotivated? Let's find your passion! Fearful? Let me put your mind at ease!

But the lazy "we always do it this way because it is easiest for me" people are impossible to deal with and even if you get them on-side, they will be the first to complain (and in some cases just outright stop working) when things get tough.

My work always hire people just based on their initial interview personality and then eventually they get fired or leave...the ones they hire never have a clue what they are doing, always lie and pretend they are working whilst at home. And then you get pissed off and then you seem like the bad guy even tho your sat there going...I work my arse off whilst you haven't a clue about your other employees that are doing nothing.

Probably more behind it to why you get shit on when not performing compared to non-performers but still.
