Worst Interview Story?

I'll go first:

Interviewer told me that she needs smart people

and that all her reps are stupid...

and will be fired soon....

Then she bragged about how good the office perks were

and that they were her idea....

I respectfully declined the second interview when offered and she flipped out

She then blocked me on Linkedin

What's yours?

I have 2 and mine are as an interviewer.

I used to ask "why shouldn't I hire you?" as a way of essentially asking "what are your weaknesses?" in a way people weren't prepared for. Great interview question IMO but I got 2 replies that stood out to me:

I had a woman who was otherwise unqualified break down crying because she got a DUI in college and thought I was asking about that. I had to tell her that no, I meant WORK RELATED reasons...

I had a guy say "well I have narcolepsy which means I might fall asleep on my desk but not because I'm lazy or anything". And if you know laws about ADA, I pretty much immediately said "OKAY THAT IS NOT A REASON WHY I WOULDN'T HIRE YOU BUT THIS INTERVIEW IS OVER" and ended the interview. Actually ended up offering him a job after the rest of my team interviewed him but he accepted an offer elsewhere.

The interviewer was late, the place was boiling hot, so I was sweating through my suit. He came in, and I got racially abused. Nice.

He started using racial slurs? What happened? I would have called the main HR and reported that douche.

Small company in NE. No minorities, and quite frankly no one would listen. I was also 22 when this happened and did not know much better.
Thank god I got out of Nebraska...

A company set up an unpaid 8 hour interview day with 12 different folks interviewing me throughout the day. Each of them asked me about my resume, as they were reading it. Oh and they talked more about their roles.  Every. Single. One.

I prepared myself for weeks for this interview. Not one question was asked about me. They repeated shit off of my resume. Nothing prepared. Did I mention this was the 4th and final round?

THE. WORST.

Nope.

The hiring manager was gone within the year as well.

I dodged a bullet.

I asked the interviewee a cliche question "why do you want to move into sales after being in logistics for the last 7 years" I got this response "Have you ever seen Wolf of Wall Street? I want to make that kind of money"

I have 2!

1. Early in my career I was interviewing for a BDR role and wore a Nixon watch with a thick/wide (insert dick joke here) leather band. Long story short I didn't get the job because the hiring manager didn't like my watch. I wrote a LI post about it here  https://www.linkedin.com/posts/jondavidhunter_hiring-recruitment-sales-activity-6752691463437598720-TiR8

2. After college I was interviewing with a lot of medical device companies because that was the place to make some $$ before Saa sales was a thing. I had several screenings with a large Medical Device Company including passing a very difficult (I was told) personality screening phone interview in order to even get a face-to-face with the hiring manager. I finally got the interview and met the manager in a busy hotel lobby, sat down to start the interview with a stranger at the table (I thought he was with the company, but was not introduced and the manager didn't address this guy just sitting there). Went through some basics of my resume/experience and then he asked me who my hero was.. weird question but I said my mom and explained why. Then he asked me what kind of animal I relate too.. I paused and said "what??" Now I was really annoyed this guy sucked and I couldn't believe the questions he was asking I asked him "are you going to ask me what my favorite color is? Can we talk about my experience?" He was taken back and I got up from the table told him I was no longer interested and walked out.

Not mine, but my brother who worked for the same company as I did. During his interview, the owner of the company was trying to illustrate how often times in a sales role the prospect thinks they know more about your product than you and she says

"They're just sitting across the table thinking I'm a dumb twat"

He tried to keep a straight face, but the Director of Sales heroically tried to correct her to 'twit' to which an argument ensued about the correct use of twat.  Turns out there's two definitions...

These stories are great.  I don't have anything on that level, but I had one recently where the interviewer would not stop talking about how successful he was in his last role to get this VP job, how he invested in the best technology for his team, and how much money he's going to make once they get acquired. I'm just glad it was over the phone rather than video chat.

One thing I need to do more during this phase of the process is walk away from an opportunity if I'm not liking everything I'm hearing. I've realized that making best use of your time is most important.

One of my first interviews ever and one I was wildly unprepared for, the interviewer asks "how would your coworkers describe you?"

I blanked and eventually came up with "calm". He asked if I wanted to give a different answer to which I said no I'll stick with that. There was no next step
