Worst job you ever had

I worked for a startup as my first job breaking into the SAAS space after I decided not to do recruiting in an agency and I quit after 5 months for the below reasons

  • The purpose of their software was to measure software developers productivity and allow companies to decide which ones to fire based on our consultation(I hated this the most)
  • There was no sales strategy or coaching it was pick up the phone and call people and hope it sticks
  • Took a month for me to get a work computer
  • My boss's boss was an admitted bipolar person and you never knew what mood he would be in
  • Our CEO was ruthless and offered little to no help while trying to manage from London.

All in all I quit after 5 months because it wasn't working and there was no future there. What about the rest of the WR?

I had a job in high school working for this guy who sold hot tubs at fairs. It was only a temporary thing for the duration of the fair. We were cleaning the tubs all day and making sure they were presentable. At the end of it, he gave my buddy and I $20 when we were supposed to get $500 and basically told us to kick rocks. Karma is a bitch and he went bankrupt and got sued by his suppliers shortly after.

Sounds like it might have been worse to be a hot tub salesman...

Not shocking and luckily you probably learned to recognize garbage people at a young age and will use that to your advantage in the AE role you hold.

Working as a Shift lead at a pizza place...manager IS ( I still talk to some ppl there, so she still is)  hooking up with one the 18 year old kids..she is married and has 2 kids...not to mention she sucked as a manager in general!! UGH!! Plus they had a bunch of creeps working there who were nasty mofo's haha! I quit in September. They were always messing up tills and had people stealing but she was friends with ppl stealing...she had someone who got shot outside one the stores in a drug deal gone wrong...and he came into the store and traumatized a bunch of people, and got mess everywhere...not to mention he passed away inside in the back of the store, she was trying to make ppl stay working waiting for a clean up crew. There is so much more I can write a novel.

I worked for a Spanish-speaking radio station one summer during college as their only English-speaking sales rep. My job was to go door to door to local businesses and sell advertising spots. It was 100% commission, 0% training, and my boss smelled like she lived inside a Winston cigarette factory....so ride alongs made me want to puke. I quit 3 weeks in and worked the rest of the summer at Traget.

Agreed. If you can tough out hospo for a year or two, you can do anything.

I think most restaurant owners a little.....out there, mentally. It takes a special type of person to open a business with the all-time highest failure rate.

Yeah, my wife wants me to coach my son when he’s old enough and I am at a hard no on that cause of dealing with parents. Funny story my buddy is the AD at a high school in Brooklyn and this weekend was telling me a story about how parents begged him to get their kid on a team promising to not bother about playing time and the 2nd week asked about his playing time…

Baskin-Robbins, micro-manager mother of the owner made it a living hell.  On the flip side, I was only 16 years old and most likely made her life the same.

Dang! Sounds tough and eerily similar to my first role in SAAS.
I was hired as an AE but they had non-existent sales training, support, or positioning. We sold into the restaurant space.

I was given a *procured* list of contacts to call and make 80-100 dials a day (so acting like an SDR).

A bunch of those numbers were old, closed down businesses.

Our CEO was all flash, smoke and mirrors. Would talk a big game but everything was for show.

I figured I made a big mistake within the first month but this was early last year and I got stuck there for a year, ironically being the best salesperson on the team, but it sucked.

Very happy to be where I am now in a much different sales role.

I sold health insurance for a certain bird themed company for a college internship. Taught me how to become a savage on the phone but it was not the move whatsoever.

Answering phones for essentially a help desk/complaint line for a company that banks hired to resubmit bounced checks 3 more times….so they’d typically keep bouncing and cause people tons of overdraw charges. I got to take angry calls all day. Got death threats. The “prince of Dubai” called one day. The worst was at Christmas time. People asking how they were supposed to buy their kids presents if we keep doing this. Gave me THICK skin though
